Walking On The Dry Side

I walked the dry creek which is really dry this time,
more dry than I've ever seen.
We had an abundance of rain through winter and spring
but now the deep holes are dry and the ponds are lower.
I know the leaves fall when the light lessens but many have fallen from the dry.  The trees are smarter than me and know when they can no longer feed their leaves.
As I walk and explore dry waterfalls I've never seen, I worry since water is such an important thing.
May the rains come.

Are We Dry??

Sunday I checked out the creek with part of the farm dog team.  Don't know how I got away without the hot peppers but it made for a little calmer exploration.
The elderberries bloom along the creek's edge.
You can tell the creek is low. It is fed by three wet weather springs and two full time springs. I have not seen the creek this low in a very long time.
Tried to capture the water skater
but only his shadow is clear.
Normally I travel up the creek so it remains clear.
This day we traveled down and stirred the silt.
The Borders were having a ball.
Lil tries to catch the water skaters
but never gets one.

There was rain all around us Monday.
We were blessed with one tenth.

The Last Cloud...

that promised rain,
rumbled and grumbled
thundering across the sky.
Bringing hope and possibility,
clinging to the greyness
The winds tossed the promises away
and left us disappointed,
dry and even hotter.

Heat, Headache and Horse S**t...

Oh, the plans I make when I dream, I was gonna get so much done today.  No hospitals, no obligations, nothing but plans of important treasured things  I WANTED to do.
So here are the temps that greet me by nine o'clock.  All my outside adventures are literally melting before my eyes.  I have been up since five but other things demanded my attention...the normal crap assigned to women, dishes, gathering things, starting laundry, etc. I really shouldn't complain because while outside doing other things, hubby is making hashbrowns from scratch, ham, and eggs for breakfast (at eleven am).
I had topped off the water garden, removed a bag of mortar from the car to work on my rocks...bag's been there six months...and while there, I had to bring a blanket and a sweater in to wash, also in the trunk.  I have a sand and rock deck below my porch and have decided it needed mortar.  Note the big rock that is the center, compliments of  always-do-it-big hubby.  Siding-tracking always throws me off, see something that needs doing, do it, and go back to first job later.

Sadly watched the last chance of rain leave the valley
while longing just to forget it all
 and walk out that entry...
to explore.
Marcy shows with fresh corn husks...sidetracked, again.
Yes, I am in this equine huddle,
loving every corn fed moment of it.

The morning was not as productive as I wanted.  I gathered some limbs, used the cement, fed/loved the horses, refreshed their water and did not have a dry rag on me.

Oh, the freedom felt so good.

The Sisters' Garden...

Despite the heat,
no rain,
abundant bugs,
and grazing wild life,
the garden still grows.
It is producing,
each plate of food is a hard won victory.
and the bugs,
the critters,
and my sisters still work on the garden.
