a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

How Big Is Too Big

for an OCD Border Collie stick dog?
Lil spies a massive "stick"
and demonstrates the Border Collie's determination.
Not one to give up easily
Lil tries to stare it down
knowing in her youth there was no stick that could best her.

Gray Ladies Digging

on a warm spring day
 can be taxing work.
Although extremely exciting
it is very exhausting.
Just ask me...another gray lady digging in the garden with Lil.
We were both very serious about and satisfied with our work.

The Perpetual Game Of Stick

Sorry for the butt shot but you can't miss these natural bob tails!
They always steal poor Lil's stick. I try to sneak Lil a stick of her own.  A fun game for a bunch of miss matched farm dogs.

Diamond Lil

Any stick will do
Lil's search for a stick is border line/Border Collie OCD.
Getting up in years, Lil, a short haired Border Collie is our oldest dog on the farm team.  She's a great stock dog, a snake dog and a stick dog.  She also has a love of food.  She dines after the cats at Marcy's at three AM  then lets the chickens eat what she deems is enough then she lays on the rest of the food until the chickens give up.  Then Lil eats, casually, and in good amounts.  She no longer maintains her girlish figure.

She never turns down a game of stick.
Throw it!  I got it!
Don't blame us, we throw what she brings if we can.
But there are always helpers...
and those who taunt
All want the stick Lil chooses
Come on, old lady, I've got  your stick!
but Lil doesn't play that game.
I know she's thinking, Why in the world did I ever teach them stick?  But like the good teacher she is, Lil patiently waits.  Young ones change games quickly.  Darn pup!

Terzanelle? With My Dogs

Trying my inexperienced hand at creating a Terzanelle. (I feel a little better since my computer says it's not a word.  That just means we are both obsolete.)  While trying to find where in the world I found the prompt I discovered one of my favorite poetry sites is closing its doors.  Good Bye, Poetry Jam, I will miss you.

I thought, What in the world could I talk about, using the proper form, that would fill five required triplets and an ending quatrain?  Well, I do have six dogs....pictures in order of age, oldest to the pup.
I declare dogs are smart
Strong workers with big hearts
I declare dogs are smart
No matter the color, breed or age
They win you over from the start
Strong workers with big hearts
Size nor breed matters not
Loving canines with big hearts
They win you over from the start
Many are thrown away
When given a new place to stay
Loving canines with big hearts
A true announcer in every way
Running free living large
When given a new place to stay
A true announcer in every way
Strong workers with big hearts
I declare dogs are smart
Running free living large

THIS WAS TOO MUCH LIKE WORK!
Still not sure if I have the form right.
I could use some advice.

My Calling...

Many voices
Called me
Ancestors of mine
And others
Asked me to dig
I heard them

Animals called me to heal
I healed then and now
But never got a paper
Training was easy
dogs horses
and chickens

My calling changed
To wife, mother, employee
Through all that
Animals and ancestors
paper and paint
Called...I answered
Diamond Lil, Short-haired Border Collie
