Good Fences on a Hot Summer Day

Far from fresh water the dogs followed me
Here's the fence I crawled under to help find water...
in a dry creek.
Lil, the oldest in this pack, not counting me,
thought the water should be here.
Lil was walking where water used to be.
I'm not sure she trusted me to find water.
but I did!!! It was a short walk for me...a long run for them.
Every dog was thrilled.
We celebrated and thanked God for leaving us such a treasure.
We headed home.  The pack leader (me) knew some secrets the dogs didn't know. These "dry" creeks carry the run off from rain and wet weather springs but are empty when it gets really dry.  We're not REALLY dry... yet.

Protecting Your Friends.

At the new pond
the pack was cooling when danger was spotted.
JR screamed, Something's out there!!!
Ki-Anne and JR conferred and decided to send Bonnie...
Nothing bothers her.
JR says, I'll help,
then swims for high ground.
Bonnie has the monster in her jaws.
and saves the day
by delivering the "killer" log for all to inspect.

"Boogering" The Dogs

not to be confused with "buggering".  "Boogering" is simply making strange noises and changing your outline to "booger" or make your dog think it is some monster invading.  Hubby loves this game.  I think it's horrible.  The dogs always look so embarrassed when they've misidentified  a threat.
Lizzy, all noise, runs to safety.
Lil is moving in for the attack of this strange creature.
Bonnie and Ki are still unsure.
Lil has been embarrassed but Bonnie still is not sure.  Ki simply waits.
Bonnie's alert tail is still up
and they charge each other.
Oh, the things some of us do for fun!

Blazing Trails Last Thursday

The orange is Hubby on the tractor
while I follow with cold drinks
The weather was summer warm Thursday.
You know it's dry when dogs can make a dust cloud.
I got into a small predicament.
Walked down to Hubby with a cold drink
and bribed him to help me out.
He did and I left "while the getting was good".
We were unable to access this fence except by foot.
Hubby worked so we can drive by and repair easier.
The drought is showing
but some of the trees are changing colors too.
And that was one more day At The Farm.

Recycling/Reusing Feed Sacks

The sacks hold walnuts
and make great landscape fabric.
They make a great recycling bag for the recycling.

They can be unraveled from their current shape as a sack and be sewn by machine to make a large tarp or wind break.  I have seen people cut them into strips and crochet them as rugs. They also make fair insulation in an out building...the insides are white.

Not nearly as wonderful as the cloth sacks much of my childhood clothing and quilts were made with but they still have some interesting purposes.

Waste not, want not.

Don't Even Talk About The Heat

It has been so warm even prissy Lizzy had been in the water and she doesn't do water at all!
She rolled!  Twice.
The standard tip toe through water didn't do it today.
If it stays this hot, Lizzy may go swimming with the team.
Wishing all of you a place to cool.

Farm Team At Work

The weather had boxed me in so the first hint of sunshine and warmth lured me outside.  We had some trimming and burning to do but I also stole some time to play.  Checking how the last big rain had changed the creek bed.
Every time I go out I see more jobs.  This was a rather deep spot reflecting the light but what I saw was the wood that needed to be cleared and the possibility of a grand son swimming hole come spring.

Then Lizzy, The Announcer, informed me the remaining farm team was up to something.
Four dogs trying to remove what ever took refuge under this stump.  Count them...four.  Squiggs is the smallest and Lil the largest but three found room inside the hole they had excavated.
Busy determined dogs
Lil takes a break and allows Ki and JR to fill the hole.
Nothing was caught but excitement was high.
Those are happy tails sticking up in the air.

Later this day Bonnie captured another armadillo.  She shook it so hard it was separated from it's shell.  Good dogs!  Bonnie two, armadillos Zero.  Things are going as they should At The Farm.

Doing Things Differently

Along with the cold we have had lots of high winds.  Tree limbs falling and old tin roof trying to fly away.  We decided to fasten them down on the old house
and the smokehouse.

Hubby did it Sunday.  I am usually the one in the bucket.  This day Hubby decided bravely I would control the up and down of the bucket and he would risk his life inside.  Obviously I don't understand the word "smoothly" because nothing about his ups and downs was smooth.  He bravely stood as I jerkily raised and lowered him.  I think he was tired of me screaming from the bucket. I didn't cause him to scream once.  He just said, "Smoothly".

When I returned him to the ground safely I said thank you.  I was so grateful not to be gripping the bucket for dear life. I did learn a new game...Bouncy Bucket.  Hubby didn't like playing it.

The winds are still strong but I hear no tin roofs flapping.  Such a relief.
Sorry for the butt shots but we had a lot of help and it's difficult to maneuver a bucket while taking pictures.
