Independence Day

For days this post had me stymied.  I wanted my words to ring with truth and hope and thanks.

What does Independence Day mean to you?  To some it means a day off work, to some it means cookouts and fireworks.  To me it means: Never forget those who have sacrificed many things for our right to celebrate this day.

Since the beginning of time we have warred for the church, for the freedom to worship and for other's freedoms.  Sadly, the time is growing closer that we may have to war for our rights once again hopefully with a pencil and our voice.

Here in these United States we have a document to live by that our forefathers crafted with great care and attention to detail.  One of the most know sentences written over two hundred years ago still means the same to some, nothing to many.  "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness".  A timeless document we should not mar nor forget.

How can so much truth be held in so few words? 

Follow the history in the music.  "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "My Country 'Tis of Thee" are two of the better known pieces but protest goes through the years and continues.  I could name all the wars and all the music but I will leave that to you.

Do not forget those who made the greatest sacrifice for our "unalienable rights".  A few great men and women do so again and again.  We need to thank them properly.

That is what July Fourth is about, this year and every year.  We are "The land of the free and the home of the brave".  

RAISE YOUR FLAG. 

Fight for your country once again in the voting booths of our nation. Your vote does count.  Maybe we can take back our nation before it's too late.
