a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Poets United Women

I have many woman I respect and have influenced me greatly.  Some of them are in blog land.

I wrote this in the middle of the night not knowing this prompt was next.

SISTER MINE

The bones of her birthday dinner
Still lay on the plate

A teacher by trade
She molded young minds

Isolated by weather and time
She sat visiting old memories

The bones of the past resurfaced
And she smiled.

Visit Poets United.  Join the challenge and enjoy the entries.

The Rocking Chair...

For Poetry Jam:  Rock On

Mamma rocks the hurt away
Daddy rocks away the fear
Granny rocks to my comfort zone
Grandpa rocks the tears

The Bogeyman creaks the closet door
The Black Sheep paces on the squeaky floor
Muffled cries SHRIEK
No More!  No More!

Daddy and Grandpa storm the door
Mamma rocks the hurt away
Granny wipes the tears
The voices silent leave with the fear

"We care for our own"
Danger held at bay
The men returned
The shovels put away

Mamma rocks the hurt away
Daddy rocks away the fear
Granny rocks to my comfort zone
Grandpa rocks the tears

The Mag #126 The Lady In Black

Magpie Tales by Tess Kincaid is the place to flex you creative muscles.  Each week she gives us a picture prompt and encourages our imagination to go wild.

At first we think she's waiting
As she smokes her cigarette
But she is watching
For what hasn't happened yet.

One A dances to classical music
One B has lots of cats
One C is always eating
and has become quite fat.

The second floor gets better
A loving couple there
Who quite frequently
Show how much they care.

Two B apartment houses a lonely man
Who sits quietly in his chair
He smokes his pipe in one hand
In the other his gun is always there.

Upward to the third floor
the view is rather clear
This monster beats his wife at night
and no one seems to hear.

Oh, yes, the lady in black is waiting.
A gun within her purse.
A thousand times within her mind
The moment she has rehearsed.

The lady on the third floor
who daily denies the sin
The one who takes the beatings
Is the lady in black's best friend.

The MAG 108...Fishing?

is dedicated to the enjoyment of poets and writers, for the purpose of honing their craft, sharing it with like-minded bloggers, and keeping their muses alive and well.
1) Write a poem or short vignette using the picture featured in this post as your inspiration. Feel free to take the photo to use for your post.
2) Link back to Magpie Tales from your post.
3) Sign up in the Mr. Linky list, linking directly to your post, AFTER you've posted.

A delightful fun way to stretch your imagination and let your fingers do the talking.  This is the picture posted to let our imaginations run wild.
Quietly, she stood, making sure no more bubbles surfaced.  It had been a difficult venture but she was up for it, tough person that she was.

Those beautiful eyes looked at her as she lowered him into the water, holding him under, waiting...she took her time.  She wanted this to be done right.

When he could be seen no more, receding into the deep waters, she stood...and she wondered.

Why did she fish, if she only sets them free?

A Poor Attempt...

Today, I'm trying something new.  The Mag has a creative challenge using this picture as your inspiration.
Here goes nothing.

THE EYES HAUNTED HIM

Everywhere he turned
He didn't want to think of her
But those haunting eyes
Loomed on the horizon of his mind
Constantly,
Continually,
Asking him, why?

She didn't have to die
If she'd only stopped looking
With that piercing gaze
But she looked,
Sadly,
Silently,
As he squeezed her porcelain throat.

He thought her death
Would end it all
Erase her from his mind
No more chocolate eyes,
Pleading,
Placating,
Gone but forever in his mind, the eyes cried, Guilty!
