a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

A Walk With Dogs

Notice the pack lining up behind the flowers
We explored the creek
Found a rabbit den/nest
Yep, that's my finger.
Discovered a tree with strange scratches
Searched for varmints
and enjoyed the tiny wild flowers.

A Walk

A WALK
Are you sure you want to follow?
The water's cold and the rocks are hard
Are you sure you want to follow?
We will be leaving the safety of the yard

Are you sure you want to follow?
Lil's eyes said to me
Are you sure you want to follow?
Who knows what waits beneath the trees

I was sure to follow
Over ever hill and rock
I was sure to follow
Even through the gates that lock

I was sure to follow
Down the deep creek bed
I was sure to follow
Trusting I felt no dread.
We saw birds and cattle
We saw deer in a row
We saw our breath in the air
We decided it was time to go.

Unplugged At dVerse~Poets Pub

dVerse~Poets Pub has suggested we unplug and discover what we're missing.  Most of the time the real world does beat out our virtual lives.  Time for us to unplug and enjoy for more reasons than we know.
I took a walk
Through ancient eyes
I'd forgotten to see
The land provides
Rain entices growth
We no longer know
What's safe to eat
Nor how to plant and grow
Every plant has a purpose
Every object has a use
We must unplug
To teach our youth
Listen to Ancient way
Forever tried and true
They knew how to live
With what's in front of you.

For Poetry Jam...Walking

A Walk To Inspire at Poetry Jam is a challenge I found through a wonderful poet, Brian.  I thought I might give it a try.  I picked the wrong morning as beautiful days flowed by me this week today I chose to walk.

Winds strong enough to ruffle
Tail feathers on a metal rooster
I walked into the wind
Willing inspiration

I wondered why I picked today
A colder day than any this week
The  ground wet with last night's rain
The sand marked with flows past

Leaves danced in straight lines
A chorus line of early winter
Scattered like my thoughts
Over the winter landscape

Inspiration had been my goal
The day chased me indoors
With no thoughts
Except the price of heating fuel.

The Sky

was beautiful as I walked.
The farm team had recovered enough to hunt.
The ground was damp enough for tracks.
The sunset peeked over the trees
as Ki-Anne asks, "What's taking you so long?"

The Sky Had Promise...

as I drove to work.
The clouds kept changing on my short drive.
There were rumors of rain.
At work, my dream came true.
The rains came and washed the dust away.
It was slow.
It was beautiful.
The plants seem to hold themselves at attention,
since the rain.
It rained slowly, gently, all day.
The beauty of the afternoon called me to walk.
I viewed the garden from afar,
and from up close.
I played in the mud where we find arrowheads.
When I saw the sky on the walk back,
I knew I had to share.
Back to the spot where I began,
refreshed,
and renewed.
The fog began to rise in the valley.
Precious rain and a wonderful walk...
life doesn't get much better than that!

My Monday Walk...

Had to have one, I was in dire need of a  farm walk.  I am mourning the loss of my fridge by my own hands and am not happy with an ice chest.  After a rain, yes, I said RAIN, I decided to walk as soon as I came home today.  Donned some farm clothes and my rubber boots, camera in pocket.
The sky over the farm after the rain
We found wild flowers
and rocks, where I fell.
Nothing broken but had to sit a while.
I said, ooooh, owww, but no bad words.
Coming back up, I slipped.
My forearm and knee got the brunt of it.
Small price to pay to walk in such beauty.
I found a treasure
and Lil found a stick.
Just to let you know how much I was enjoying the cool air and the beauty around me, zoom in to the bottom of this small water fall and see what nestled there for me...a water moccasin.  I was close.  I walked past and looked back and saw it.  Did I remember the camera?  No!!!  I sicced the dogs and Lil grabbed it out, got one good shake in and Squiggie took it from her and shook it in half.   Good dogs!!!!  That's their job.

I decided it was time to end my walk and head back to the safety of home.  Solid floors here and no snakes!

My Last Day Home...

I worked some around the house, read and rested before my dental appointment.  I also walked. I donned my light jacket and muck boots, camera in hand.  The air was  a little nippy but clear and fresh.
I saw beauty in the small things,
and in the far things.
We could not walk for long.
The rain returned.
The pack and I had a rousing game of football.
I believe Maggie was the high scorer.
Her defense was awesome.
The rain fell
and we returned to the warmth we call home.
