a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Tranquility

There are spots upon the land
Where magic always grows
Beauty born by Nature's hand
Hidden deep to touch the soul

I'm blessed I'm proud to say
It's never the same place twice
A spot finds me every day
I smile, sigh and soak in the sights

And if I'm very lucky
Which I often am
I sooth my feet in water rocky
And simply know "I am."

Where Are You From?

From countries forgotten
From hard working hands
From mountains and streams
From love of the land.

From "You can do anything"
From "There is a God"
From "Honesty is all"
From "Respect Mom and Dad"

From dreams and wishes
From hard work
From prayers
From unlimited blessings

I am from right here.

Dad and Mom

Daddy was
My Irish sunshine
From Dust Bowl
And
The Great Depression
From hunger
And hard work
He grew
Into a soldier
I need no reminder of the cost
Husband, father
And oh, so much more

Parents gone while I live
in an old house
in the very heart of things
In the house they built
Midst the ashes and memories
of other old houses
The very heart of them lives
I like to say I have Dad's eyes
I hope I have their zest for living
I know I have their love of the land
And pray I have their heart

The Skull and The Lady

The skull asked
As the lady turned
How came you here?
I will not be spurned

It's rude to peer
Up a lady's dress
Unless you ask
You meatless mess

The eyeless skull exclaimed
I did not would not look
Without
Being ashamed

The pastel paint
Blushed
And apologized
then she hushed

Why are we here?
I am dead
You glow with beauty
Where's the common thread?

The owner of here
Without consent
Placed beauty by a skull
Contradiction to the extreme extent

Enjoy our time
We'll never know
What pieces she keeps
Or what she will throw

A Saturday Afternoon

We are invited by Brian at d'Verse Poets to challenge ourselves by using senses other than sight.

I HEAR
Strains of Stevie Ray Vaughn
Andrew learning
From one of the best

The strings sing and cry
Music enters my feet
The same moment
My ears welcome the rhythm.

Self taught fingers
Slide and imitate
Fender frets
Heavy strings

Music ends
Tractor motor
Reminds me I am
At The Farm

A Walk

A WALK
Are you sure you want to follow?
The water's cold and the rocks are hard
Are you sure you want to follow?
We will be leaving the safety of the yard

Are you sure you want to follow?
Lil's eyes said to me
Are you sure you want to follow?
Who knows what waits beneath the trees

I was sure to follow
Over ever hill and rock
I was sure to follow
Even through the gates that lock

I was sure to follow
Down the deep creek bed
I was sure to follow
Trusting I felt no dread.
We saw birds and cattle
We saw deer in a row
We saw our breath in the air
We decided it was time to go.
