a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Blazing Trails Last Thursday

The orange is Hubby on the tractor
while I follow with cold drinks
The weather was summer warm Thursday.
You know it's dry when dogs can make a dust cloud.
I got into a small predicament.
Walked down to Hubby with a cold drink
and bribed him to help me out.
He did and I left "while the getting was good".
We were unable to access this fence except by foot.
Hubby worked so we can drive by and repair easier.
The drought is showing
but some of the trees are changing colors too.
And that was one more day At The Farm.

A Rain!!!!

The worst drought since 1937 has affected many states.  Stockman are selling out and farm are drying up.  Tuesday we received a great blessing.
My youngest grandson and daughter running
through the beautiful rain.
From my porch
I captured the downpour.
I did not measure it.
I only said, Thank you.

The Mag 125

Chilmark Hay, 1951 by Thomas Hart Benton

Once again,
I am stumped
The picture's real
I'm in a slump.

Farmer John has hay
And green grass galore
We have nothing
Just dead grass and spores.

I guess I'm suffering
From hay envy now.
Can't cut, can't rake
Can't even plow.

Cattle auctions are full
Selling into the night
Trailers lined up
Far outta sight.

Trying not to fail
Survival mode in place
This county is going to...well,
Pray for rain and say Grace.

Join the fun at THE MAG.

We Have No Fire...

except in the sky.  It is most intense.  Rain and moisture is a sweet dream that hasn't come.
Many are selling their cattle because there is no hay.  We are lucky to be able to irrigate our pasture but the cows seem to be ahead of the grass we have.  We are feeding range pellets.

The very sad part is it's not just our state but the states that grow much of the country's food.

Light a candle and pray for rain...but don't drop it in the grass.
