a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Small and Not Small

This dog is very small.
This dog is not small at all.
This frog is small.
This frog is not small.
That is all.

Water Garden Before and After

The Koi troll in clear waters
The more I looked the more unnatural it seemed
So I started over
More moss and some rocks rearranged.
My top rock with a hole feeds into my new holey rock.
The water then runs over a volcanic rock
 into a small pool
where the water runs through that rock's hole into the stream.
The water runs completely through moss
that works as a natural filter for the water garden.
None of the inhabitants are complaining.
The frog even seemed pleased with his rusty toolbox full of moss.
Shabby chic meets a water garden.

Alex, Mad Snapper and Wild Flowers

I have tried multiple times to capture
this beautiful waxy wild flower
from the Buttercup family.
Need to take some more camera lessons
from the Mad Snapper.
Red clover is the only evidence other than total damage to field and creek that Entergy Power left. We were supposed to be fully seeded with no damage.  Comedians, I guess, cause they certainly were not people that respected land.
Another wild flower, this time in the Aster family.
All these are identified for Alex 'cause he always asks,
 "But what kind is it?"
Confirmation that dandelions can grow anywhere.
Look closely.
There is a tiny frog in the center no larger than my thumb nail.
I'm guessing it is a Blanchard's Cricket Frog.

Alex has a new science fiction novel published,
a blog with movie reviews and great information.
He even takes time to help insecure writers like me.
Thanks, Alex.
You Rock!

Springs and Fields and Autumn Skies

From the first spring the water flows to join with the second and third spring to make our creek.  I always thought the first was a wet weather spring but it is still flowing enough to fill the branch.
I always talk about how clear the water is but usually the dogs hit it before I get to show you.  Here's a clear spot beginning to look like fall.  A good gully washer or chuck floater would clean the creek out so it would not get as muddy.
It doesn't stay clean long when the dogs cool off.  Deep enough for some to swim.  Lizzy is staying away from the deep water and tip toes through the shallows.
The dogs failed to see my tiny frog.  There were several jumping in.  The dry weather has thinned their swimming holes.
A cowless field with blue skies and mown grass that only deer and rabbits will eat this year is a bitter sweet sight.  I'll talk differently when the ice and snow are blowing.  Will NOT miss the cattle then.

You Know It's Done Right

when folks want to move in.
The hidden skeleton in the water garden
 Jump, frog!
It's Ki-Anne.
You can't get me here, dog!

Walking...

Lil stands on the tree trunk covered with poison oak.
I use to bathe here as a young child in summer.
This live creek has water year round.
This is a "dry" creek.
It will go dry if we don't receive enough rain.
See the tiny resident?
It's just a frog, Pat.
Treasures from the rain.

Blessed Are The Bug Eaters...

a toad,
a spider,
a frog,
and a lizard,
All contribute to the health of the garden.

Blending In...

Many days this is exactly what I want to be, not a frog, but almost invisible. I would like to be difficult to find when all those challenges in life are calling me to be front and center.  Sadly, I can not be a camouflaged frog.
When life's challenges seek me out,
I am as easy to spot as this Monarch.

Big Dog Blog

Which one is the big dog? The one wearing pants! You would think as much energy as I am using to train Gypsy for her forever home, some of this weight would fall off. I think I need more dogs!
The house you see in the back ground was the old family home, two rooms with a leanto kitchen. The red building is the smoke house over the root cellar.
We have had a foggy August and hope that does not mean as many snows this winter.  September has also been foggy so far.
We have to remember the sun will shine through the fog.
The fruit is growing
We have hazelnuts.
Marcy keeps on canning, freezing and drying so we have been blessed with food this summer.  Bev keeps on working every where she is needed.
Things are hopping!
and sometimes things get hot At The Farm!
