is much larger than it looks and is part of a large limestone shelf behind the garden. Just below a spring runs as the first full time source of live water that begins our creek. The main springs join in further down.
The ledge is over grown now. There are four to five rocks that I'm sure used to be one thousands of years ago but time and climate and other sources divided them. They lay thick and solid almost touching but never moving...not in my life time.
Today I wanted to climb and touch them but along with briers, honeysuckle and Virginia Creeper there was also a fine crop of Poison Ivy so I didn't. I stood at creek level and remembered.
I remembered the ongoing adventures my dad and all the grandchildren had here. One rock sounds hollow when tapped with a hammer or a rock. This sound was the beginning of The Treasure Hunt.
It was a sight to see...Dad leading a row of stair step grand children, each carrying their tool of choice, through the garden and down the bank to endless adventures.
The cracks around the hollow rock, filled with nature's debris, were emptied with sand shovels, picks, tiny hands and patience. Much laughter was always heard and many stories told with no limits to their imagination regarding what they might find.
When they grew tired Dad and the ducklings shouldered their tools and returned home to feed and rest.
The bottom edge was never reached but the digging never stopped. A day at the farm usually meant a treasure hunt with Grandpa Pete. The digging crew grew smaller but they now had their own stories to add.
The children grew older and went their own way.
One day I came to visit and Dad was digging alone remembering. The grandchildren will never forget.
a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Things I Have Learned This Past Week...
We were blessed with green tomatoes.
Sometimes the blurry pictures are the best.
There are many ways to carve a pumpkin.
Sometimes dogs and children look alike.
Look at those mouths!
Football is scary without padding,
heck, it's scary with padding!
Sometimes simple colors are the most beautiful.
and Mother Nature always has something to share,
if you just look.

Grandson/Football Report
Andrew, exhausted after a late night football game, excitedly waits for the bus. The final score last night...28 to 0, our favor. Papa said Andrew did a great job, wish I had been there.
Jake gets to spend the night. Papa has promised him if he listens, does his homework, and get up for school without complaining, he gets to stay At The Farm. Jake is and has been a good boy, except for one incident. He got a paddling at school for throwing Jello up a boy's nose...it was strawberry flavored and Jake denies it. Jake is still staying because I think it takes a very talented young man to throw strawberry Jello UP someone's nose...Jake doesn't care for Jello.
Zander's highlight of the week was getting to eat rice through the rails of a chair. After each bite, he would chew and then jump out to scare Marcy. This is a boo shot.
I think my daughers threw some good pups!

Zander And The Stick Girl
Look what Lil gave me!
Why is she staring at me like that?
Nana, help me throw the stick!
Drop it, Cutter!
Lil finally gets her stick...
only to bring it back to Zander
for Nana to throw again.
Who would've guessed it?

What I Got On Mother's Day or Down And Dirty
I got some land leveled. That is a good gift and Hubby was grinning. He did it because he knew it made me happy.
Or was it because I was on my hands and knees?
I was looking for arrow heads.
The spring pond is close by so I decided I would pull some moss to use for mulch in the garden. These trees are still here from the tornado and ice. There were more trees, Hubby has removed one now and then and finally we are down to the last two big ones. Here's comes Hubby to mess up my play house.
He has cut the spillway so we can drain the pond lower,
remove some trees and some silt,
and generally make a mess.
Wonderful moss will make wonderful mulch
and enrich the ground.
My feet got mucked and I fell down!
Got just a tad muddy.
I did get a bucket of snails for Four Two.
Jake, my middle grandchild,
named Marcy's koi
when he was learning to count, thus...
Four Two.
I found a deep hole and then fell forward.
Thanks goodness there was an island.
We had stick boat races as the pond was draining.
It was hard for anyone to win with Maggie's eye on the sticks.
We did some snake hunting.
Bev found one baby and the guys saw it's granddaddy.
Can't you tell Jake in wanting in there?
Luke looking tough
Very little work was done in the garden
Everyone was too busy supervising.
The perfect Mother's Day,
surrounded by family,
every one laughing,
and I got to get dirty,
One of my most favorite things to do.
Hubby made a big pot of Gelbvieh chili,
the perfect meal for a perfect day.
