Too Old For Love Poems @ Poets United

Poets United has a Mid-Week Motif~Love.  To participate or just enjoy the creations of others stop by.
I love new boots
That don't slide on ice
I love leg warmers
And flannels.
I love ice on cedars
And diamonds on fences
I love feeding cattle
Who don't care
What I wear
I love new damp babies
Big brown baby eyes
And tiny hooves ending
The warm fur
And the promise of sun.

Dominoes...

when one falls they just keep falling.

My husband's uncle passed Tuesday.  All our prayers and thoughts are with the family.
We had a late calf today and neither bovine wanted to come to the valley pasture.  Finally Mom and new baby are safely in the spring bottom with fresh water and the rest of the protective herd.

I was visiting with one sister on the phone. Hubby storms in and wonders why his Dish receiver is in the floor.  I don't know!!!! Yes, I deliberately crashed it to the floor with glee when he was out of the room.  I do believe Maggie, Border Collie, got tangled in the wires and pulled it off.  I'm glad she's not hurt and doubly glad the tv did not fall.  All is, thank goodness, reassembled and working. The receiver was saved by landing in Maggie's soft bed.  There are a few pieces disconnected permanently but the tv/recliner man can still survive. All parts work.

Hubby while conversing with a sick cousin forgot the skillet and as smoke billowed into the part of the house I was in I went in search of the source.  The stove vent was on and Hubby has declared this the worst day this week.

I still smell burning pork chop grease...life is good.

The Week...

has been warm like spring but it is rolling to an end, the week and the weather.  Weather man says the rains will hit Friday and after a couple of days, our temperatures will plummet.  That's the nice thing about weather in Arkansas, if you don't like it just wait a few days and it will change.

We have a live heifer on the ground...this is good since the terrible loss of twin heifers a while back.  We have reduced our herd due to the drought so much we will have only four more calves.  Hopefully we can keep our heifers this year and rebuild the herd.  Many areas have been affected by the drought and many cattle people have had to sell all their stock.  We were lucky to keep a few.

I'm trying to think...what I've done this week and it's gone already.

Let's see, did some junk shopping and found some treasures. Compiled my tax expenses now waiting for W-2's.  Filled out a farm report REQUIRED by the government that I couldn't complete until I had my totals for expenses...that took all day Wednesday

Repaired some fence, counted the cows, created some dishes and made bread.  Cooked and cleaned and that's about it.  No special projects, no natural disasters, just a slow week...unless I forgot something. Oh, yes, I have a short story being published in an E-magazine in March.

I delay a trip to town as long as possible.  Thursday we went.  Drugstore, Kroger's, WalMart, Hibbet's, Bath and Body, and a pawn shop.  I postpone these trips until I am out of everything because I really don't like shopping.  Cleaning, personal and laundry supplies replenished for a while.  At the one stop shopping spot, I got a hair cut.  Mom's old quilt cabinet I keep in the dining room is restocked fully.  The 'fridge is full.  Glory!  I won't have to go to town for a while.

Hibbet's didn't have what I needed, Body works had a sale, Kroger's and Walmart got equal amounts.  Pawn shop got a little and we headed home.  Hubby asked, Want to eat here?  I said our ice cream will melt.  Now, that's odd for mid January.

So no exciting tales, no nail-biting drama but the larders are full and so are our tummies.  For all that, we are deeply grateful.  Hope your week was good.

Thursday's Things In A Row...

At The Farm there's no shortage to see
The animals line up for their predawn feed.
A late summer calf with four legs and a tail
Lines up with Mom to hit the trail.
In the garden the eggplants shine
This is a row that will taste mighty fine.
Join Pat and all her friends.
They have rows to show from end to end.
