a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Dad's Flame Thrower

I remember
when he told of flame throwers in the War,
not in great detail, but just how they worked.
My mind put the horror in without any help.
He talked about how handy they would be around the farm.  I always thought he made it because he invented many items to help work go easier.  I didn't ask.  I would watch him clear a fence row of underbrush and was amazed at the power of a small flame thrower.  I could not imagine the effect a larger one had in war.  Today we found it.
The cylinder is removed, diesel added, top tightened, pressure pumped,
turn the valve and light it.
The little diesel remaining was still good
but you have to pay attention to the wind direction.
This is the perfect thing for that patch of grass burrs!

Treasures Found

Who said wall paper sample books have no use?
Blue enamel bed pan and a gun holster
Red neck potty chair...take lid off and use for dining room chair or remove linoleum and slide a bucket underneath for an instant portable potty.
washboard
My personal favorite...a box of rocks.
I come by my love of rocks naturally.
Wall art from cut metal cans, wire and a button
Cast iron, copper and the politically incorrect
cowboys and Indians with an astronaut
A tiny hand carved cage for something
includes a nest box and a ceramic water container
Who the heck is this??
If you know, please tell me.
That's all the news I have today.
Update on more treasures next week
if the Lord's willing and the creeks don't rise.

And Then There's Bonnie...

She found that turtle shell again!
Bonnie had it half way home and something distracted her.  Next trip, I'm sure the transport will be successful.

Walking...

Lil stands on the tree trunk covered with poison oak.
I use to bathe here as a young child in summer.
This live creek has water year round.
This is a "dry" creek.
It will go dry if we don't receive enough rain.
See the tiny resident?
It's just a frog, Pat.
Treasures from the rain.

Mag 177 Yukon Gold

Writing prompt by Tess Kincaid

The winter was long
And mean
Root cellar was empty
The miners were lean

Searching for gold
Kept them warm
But you can't eat rocks
And come to no harm

Zeke remembered
What Sam had said
Bury me where I lived
When I die you'll be fed

So Zeke buried Sam
Just where he asked
And uncovered potatoes
Zeke had stashed

A yellow potato
Named Yukon Gold
Buried by Zeke
Let the miners grow old.

Unknown Treasure...

For hundreds of years or more this land has been occupied by many nationalities, many generations.  Today I found this and have no ideal what it is.  It "feels" like a necklace to me.  It is made from copper hooked together by tiny wires.  The copper appears to be two pressed pieces long ways and was pressed around the wire.  I have no idea what it is.
I have no idea where to begin to look.
Any ideals or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
