Unknown Treasure...

For hundreds of years or more this land has been occupied by many nationalities, many generations.  Today I found this and have no ideal what it is.  It "feels" like a necklace to me.  It is made from copper hooked together by tiny wires.  The copper appears to be two pressed pieces long ways and was pressed around the wire.  I have no idea what it is.

I have no idea where to begin to look.

Any ideals or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
