a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

The Thanksgiving Spider

The spider wove its house carefully and prepared for company.
Waiting for the guests' arrival
it ran out to greet me for dinner.
I was extremely grateful I was too large.
Happy Thanksgiving!

The Great Escape

Walking the New Ground I found a spider tunnel
bejeweled with dew.
The spider had a guest.
I watched as the grasshopper crawled toward the top
expecting the owner of the web to scramble out to catch its breakfast.
This one got away!

In The Hidden Places

Like an over ripe fruit
Draws wasps and bees
With its sticky sweetness
The spider had lured
The wasp to its web
I stopped to watch
Laid on the ground trying
To capture the moment

What a parent won't do
For their children
Dinner was trapped
and stunned.
The spider danced along her web
Repairing each strand
The wasp had torn
Like an engineer
She kept her leads equal
And judged the balance
With a glance
Drawing the food
Closer to those
Who hungered

October for Poetry Jam

October
The bull can breathe fire
Shadows lengthen
Fruit weeps for spring
We ponder
About life's web
And other things
