a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Skeletons

When the mouth
does not keep step
with the head
skeletons may spill

change is possible
as a gift in the present
but when the moon
is wired does it explode?

In Vain

Stalking the naked river
with wings of want
she flies the world
seeking clarity
of plains
void of red
empty of
first blood

Fire and Stone

It was a dusty blue day
our vessels
our bodies weeping
bleeding
our veins standing out
with fear
that the search
for the body
for any word
would not result in
"She's here!"
We take a moment
to say her name
praying she is
stronger
than fire and stone
wrapping ourselves
closely
in hope over dread
we move on

I Paint

More and more I seem drawn to the daily prompts at Mindlovemisery's Menagerie.  There is a new and varied prompt every day with an open link for a week.  This is my favorite part because there are many times I write something only to discover a link is no longer active.
I paint

A lone figure
Armed to create
Heading to a nebulous copse
There's no menace
I exhale

No infections
Except the atavistic influence
That flows through my veins
Cranberry pastel
Bony fingers paint

I came to create
With canvas and brush in hand
I step through the door
That births art
Dipping my brush in Ichor

I paint

Longing

She had always loved Nature far better than people.  In crowds she wore her mask with teeth fixed in a radiant smile never revealing the deep longing in her bones to follow the river track to the shallows and simply collapse. Nature always reeled her back .

This time, she had decided, she would stay, never to emerge again.

Sing Back

Old Bank Street, Manchester, UK by R.A.D. Stainforth

Sing back a frame
That did exist
A fiery re-call becomes
A chance to repair
To craft a new deal
From time gone
Add your wishes
This moment
Like a boat's sail
Will billow full again

Attempting a triple prompt...

Ancestors' Walk

I walked their path
Through clay
and wild grass

Stolen sleep burns my eyes
These are the beginnings
and the end

I dream I am
Powers awaken
breathing ancestors' air

Wordle Fiction...Cave

Wordle  from Sunday Whirl

I tracked through woods hill and dale
What I would find I could not tell
Science held a fascination to me
I explored until I fell

Cracks and crevice unseen by me
Seemed to evoke a lost memory
Saintly angels appeared on cue
Watching my attempts to wrestle free

I was stuck. What should I do?
No one knew where I had gotten to
I acted as if this was on purpose
And studied the sky of blue

I was a little nervous
pebbles covered the entire surface
I climbed feeling lucky and worthless
The empty cave held no serpents

Although this wasn't fair
my ignorance had landed me there
the empty cave pulled my hair
As I climbed toward the fresh air

Although I used Sunday Whirl's words this was another attempt at Frost's form. I added an extra verse.  One of these days I might conquer this form.  Where ever you are I hope you're warm.

The Holiday...

The gathering  after the harvest had morphed into a secular event.  Most were immune to the splendor unable to appreciate the plain beauty of the scattered leafs across the valley.

Outside "far from the madding crowd" I gaze reverently at the beauty around me.  The breeze touches my skin on it's way to rattle the remaining leafs, pulling them from their summer home.

In awe I wonder how anyone could be bent out of shape on a day with infinite gifts to give.

The Sunday Whirl...Art?

Stained
After the hunt
The skill
The thrill
Unfolds again
In my memory

With shallow mind
Hallowed space
Centers me
To dabble
With paint
And reflection

Whacked
Blasts
Of color
Painted image
Revealing
Nothing
by me

Birds for Wordle

Wish they had built
On a cliff instead of here
No chimney available
They chose a place
Close to  drink

Six in all
Four babies
Whistle with open mouths
The parents drilled the air
For insect fortunes

No porcelain throne
For their habits
They let it rip
Building a pit, a pile below
The split tail parents sing

A Herculean Task of Multi-Prompts

Edward Hopper, 1922

and for the daunting task of form

Plastic people with alabaster skin
Walk the mine fields seeking disaster
Longing for chaos they will never win

Graphics limited only by the wind
High altitudes greatly enforce the thrill
Walk the mine fields seeking disaster

Force the climbing crowds to pick Asters
While buttered bread falls from picnic baskets
High altitudes greatly enforce the thrill

During the climb need something just ask it
These actions and words have no worth know this
While buttered bread falls from picnic baskets

Sad face with attitudes too bad mask it
Climb fast climb free stealing a kiss from me
While buttered bread falls from picnic baskets

Plastic people with alabaster skin
These actions and words have no worth know this
Longing for chaos they will never win
While buttered bread falls from picnic baskets

Oh, boy, I just felt like I was in school again.  Whose big idea was it to combine three prompts?? Mine!  I have used The Mag's picture prompt, Sunday Whirl's words (underlined) and have tried my hardest to write this nonsensical poem in the Terzanelle style that was our prompt from Imaginary Garden with Real Toads.

I must get out more because this combined challenge was too much fun!

Secrets

The ground held secrets
Shivering  in rows
Packed
With deep roots
Counting time
Mending
Planning to heal
Gathering strength
For the time
They burst forth
With a growl
Knowing secrets
Are never hidden
From Heaven
