a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Poor Pitiful Pooch...

Drenched in Eau de Armadillo, quite an aged fragrance, it became necessary to fill the DREADED bath.

It is a natural thing for a dog to find the most hideous smell and repeatedly roll in it. Beginning with the tip of their nose and sliding down what ever humanly offensive putrid piece of deceased animal they are lucky enough to discover. They will delightfully roll and wiggle on their back in this same aromatic pile of...stuff.

They're not crazy.  This is natural for them.  They are preparing for the hunt and in a funny perverse way we do the same when we groom to go out.  Rolling in this perfume allows them to sneak up on their target without the smell giving them away.  How many victims in the animal kingdom would shy away from the smell of a rotted carcass??  Pretty smart in my book.

Poor Lizzy repeatedly did this while we were gone.  This earned her a place of honor in the outside pack.  She joined the nightly raids chasing the scary critters out of the valley, joined searches with the strange smell patrol and had even joined in with the snake patrol squad. All the time she blended right in with her wonderful scent.

Then we came home.
Hubby did the dirty work
'cause he knew Lizzy would be mad at the bather
Poor Lizzy!  After the bath she ignored Hubby
even as he offered her boneless fried chicken.
She will never come to his call again!!
She loved me til she was dry and then went back outside.
I suspect she has reapplied her designer cologne.
At least she smelled sweet for a while.

dVerse~Poets Pub~Puzzles

What sweetness does a butterfly find in dog poop?
Why has the new grandsons' hang out become the dog's club house?
When bathing dogs why do we insist on making strange hairstyles?
Why can't we share the good weather?
Rain here one week
Another place the next?

I'm sure this is not what dVerse~Poets Pub had in mind when the prompt was puzzles but these are things that puzzle me.  Got any answers?

Sandy Fun With New Project...

The dry ditch that runs behind Marcy's house accumulates lots of sand.  We have to dig that out so the next rains will flow properly.  This time I claimed the sand for my new project....moving the swing set.  The set has seen it's better days but still is used by two grandsons, Jake and Zander and any children who stop by.
The set has been relocated in a mostly shady (except in this picture) with wonderful sand all around for lots of fun. Two chairs are provided for the convenience and comfort of adults required to be there.
This is one Mulberry Tree behind the set and all the clipping that needs to be done.  The lawn has been mowed all this time but the edges have been neglected.
My new toys!!!
I had plenty of assistance from Ki-Anne
 Lizzy
and Lil.
The snowball bush had been recovered and protected.
Lord, please, let it rain.

Playing With New Tools...

Hubby knows the way to my heart...not with flowers...with tools!  After struggling and fussing with my pruning shears and my limb-loppers I am the proud owner of a new pair of each.  Man, are they awesome. They slide through what I'm trimming like a hot knife through butter.
Things are kinda behind around here.  Between Hubby's and Marcy's illness and then my little bout not much  has been done.  I'm finally feeling like I can TRY to catch up.  Those who own acreage know that is never done but we do keep trying.
This is the corner of the front yard with two of the pecan trees Mom and Dad planted when they got married.  Between them WAS a fence.  Now there are a few sections with black berries and Cannas over run with Virginia Creeper, Honey Suckle, Money Plants and varied species of wild things.

Today I began to clean this area.  Each limb clipped and plant pulled was dog inspected.  Each spot dog approved.
Some even helped pick up sticks
while others just wanted a snuggle.
The pile kept growing.  There is an opening again where there once was a path.  The black berry picking will be easier this afternoon.

I haven't even scratched the surface!

Independence Day And My Boots Are Healed!!!

Many of you have noted concern about my poor boots.
I've pulled out the best invention ever...
Duck Tape...
and have no more holes.
They may not be water proof
but they are dog approved
and
good for another ten years.
Happy Independence Day!
