a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Beware!

The taxman cometh
Beware his premise of help
Fearful of prison system
Inevitable mail opened and kept

The heat could be worn
The tension sliced
The story ended
With sovereign advice

This was written for a prompt at Imaginary Garden With Real Toads.  The challenge was to use three of the twelve words given.  I used twelve.
Accept the challenge and read the creations of others.

Here It Was and Here It Is

Was
Is
 Was
was
Finally cleared!
A few trees went missing
A farm always has a post pile.
No more fence. No more briers.
There was stock wire, chicken wire and barbed wire.  The posts have been removed to use again. The wire had been sorted for reuse and I am declaring this short ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FEET of back-breaking, hand-ripping, stinging ant, horrible heat index work done. Hopefully now most of it can be mowed.

The Rose of Sharon can see the sun.  Equally happy are the wild strawberries, Dad's Currant bushes, Day lilies. Mom's Irises and Granny's Lilac and the Bridal's Wreath.  I only disturbed two irises and they were transplanted.  We can see someone driving in!

Happy plants.  Happy me.

Dam, Heart, River, Fog, Fence

At the base of the Norfork Dam is Norfork River, famous for Rainbow trout fishing.  They have a wonderful area where children can fish but it is a catch and release area.  Why?  There is a fish hatchery right there and I guess they don't want them all caught before the Norfork joins the White River, also famous for Trout fishing, Brown and Rainbow.

It was raining as we came through after Hubby heart check up...yep, he still has one.

I asked him to stop.  I wanted pictures.

In the rain?

I don't care.  I want pictures.
These steps took me to Dry Run Creek.
 to see this
and this in the rain.
The steps back seems much steeper but
if you notice my little orb is with me.
The fog was rolling in but there were people fishing every where.
The minimal flow pipe was running along with two flood gates.
The pictures do not do Norfork River justice.
The beauty was breathtaking.
I kept moving closer and closer to get a good shot.
The fog was winning but I finally got the flood gates.
And I got a rock.  Did that surprise anybody?

This is the power station below the dam.
Sometimes power is generated, but here's the kicker
The power is bought by another state!
The power plant in enclosed with a chain link fence.

A Snake Story with No Pictures!

I have been busting my b, uh, buns in this hundred degree heat because I thought I had to complete a project (pictures at a later date).

I asked Hubby how long the section I was working on was.  He said, Fifty feet.  I said, Don't tell me I have almost killed myself for only fifty feet of progress!  He grinned, Closer to fifty yards so that was better...150 feet sounds like I did something.

I did it with a reciprocating saw, clippers, pruners, wire cutters, and a hammer.  And believe me when I say, It was HARD work.

Today Hubby got the push mower started again and I was thrilled.  I don't think anyone grinned while mowing as much as I did today.  When you been folded up with clippers for a week, that lawn mower looked good, no, GREAT.

So I'm push mowing all the parts Hubby can't reach on the riding mower.  Since the weed eater is still at the mechanical hospital, the push mower beat clippers hands down.

I pushing and grinning.  I am delighted how much faster this is than clippers so I leave my area I have been working on and expand my power range.  Around the propane tank, under the swing set, around the plum trees.  I am on fire!  Working and sweating but loving it.  Sooo, then I decide to mow around the old house.

I'm screaming snake (less than a foot from me) which no one can hear over the lawn mower. My frantic jumping and waving my arms got Hubby's attention.  Six dogs and not one of them saw this snake.  Copperhead!!  Then they were all there, Hubby with gun, dogs ready to kill a snake.  Every one was too slow.  Now we know there's a Copperhead under the old house.

Wonderful.

So all I see around the entirety of our yard and Marcy's are snake arbors!  I push and mow places that had not been trimmed.  Hubby tried to stop me but I was on a mission.  Snake arbors, be gone!

Hubby brought me a drink, which I guzzled, and continued to mow.  I said, I'm not stopping til I run outta gas.  And I didn't.  Emptied that tank.

The benefits are my Tylenol and ibuprofen had kicked in, less grass to mow, sinuses wide open and I got a sauna/sweat lodge work out.

The question will be, will I be able move tomorrow?  And where will that snake be?  Lil was still laying under the edge of the house waiting so hopefully she will eliminate my problem tonight.

I think of all the evenings I go out barefooted to feed the dogs and I shiver a little. Was he laying in wait for me?  I think all the food bowls will be on the porch tonight!

And that was my afternoon.  How was yours?

Dear God, (Sometimes A Post Needs To Be Shared Again)

We have some dry places out there that really need rain.  I'm not complaining so please don't stop my rain completely.  Just share with those who have less.

This is not as personal as a handwritten letter but I didn't have your correct address.  I know You have my email address.  After all, You are God.

I would like You to help us choose the right politicians next time around.  I imagine when you look over what's happening down here You just shake your head.

I sincerely hope You can create more jobs and less hoodlums. More food and fewer illegal drugs.  I would appreciate prayer back in school and have the people our children look up to more humble, more helpful and kinder when they deal with our children.

I would like more attention given to our soldiers who seem to be forgotten.

Lord, please help us find people with more gumption than the ones we have leading this country.

I also want to thank You for the wonderful job you have done creating this Earth we live on.

Sincerely, your humble servant

PS:  Thanks for the flowers.
