Ant Lions

are fascinating insects.
They build a trap in the sand and simply wait for dinner to step in.
Rather than trying to explain it I'll let National Geographic show you.
Enjoy.

A Member Of The Assassin Bug Family

A Wheel Bug looked me in the eye
Notice how closely tucked the proboscis is
until it begins to get upset with my closeness.
The weapon begins to emerge.
Since the Wheel Bug or Assassin Bug will attack when threatened
I did not push my luck.
Their bites are very painful but they are wonderful in the garden,
bug eaters of high caliber.

Making Tracks

 We all do it.
From the lowly worms that crawl
to the varied species of lizards,
the mighty Blue Heron,
and the squirrels...everything leaves its mark.
Gator tracks!  John Deere Gator that is.
Newly recycled stairs are ready for tracking.
What kind of tracks will you leave?
