a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

A Mother's Heart

In nature and humanity there are all styles of mothering.
There are humans and animals, male and female, who've never given birth
but have a mother's heart and demonstrate that daily.
To mothers and to all those with a mother's heart,
Thank you
and
Happy Mother's Day.

Mary Was An Astronaunt

The world was full of pestilence
Only a donkey to be found
But that's no consolation
Must keep southward bound

Hollow breaths soil depleted
Onward they did go
Twenty steps a minute
The going was very slow

Leaning into night
Against a purple sky
Feeble were the hopes
They would get by

Mother Mary was a astronaut*
Father Joseph a working man
They traveled on for glory
Found not in a promised Inn

The mystics watched the journey
And knew from whence they came
Betting on the odds
If good or bad would win this game

Oh, the glory of a stable
The cradle of a King
Christ was born
Oh, how the angels did sing!

In swaddling clothes a mother held
The King of all man kind
"Happy Mother's Day" Joseph said
As the Northern Star did shine

*I apologize.  There was no sacrilegious intent with this poem.  I was prompted.  I wrote.

For Magpie Tales who supplied the picture and for Sunday's Whirligig who provided the words and for Poets United who is celebrating Mother's Day.

To all mothers and all people who "mother" I wish you a Happy Mother's Day!

A Day To Honor Mothers

who do not limit the imaginations of children,
who encourage sports, team work,
and creativity.
Happy Mother's Day should not be limited to the birth mothers.  There are grandmothers, aunts, friends, siblings and teachers that help mold a child, teach by demonstration, and encourage children to excel and enjoy all they do.

To all of you who have encouraged a child to look closely at an ant hill, played with them in the dirt, traveled through an art museum, a zoo, read a book or simply listened...thank you.  Happy Mother's Day!

Early Mother's Day

Marcy brought me flowers
and CANDY
And a wonderful soft gown covered with little dogs.
I don't know why she thought I might like dogs
or candy.
I share my bouquet
with all of you.
A home-grown hand-picked gift from Marcy.
