a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Fiery Sadness

Collage writing prompt by MindloveMisery's Menagerie.

Quotes by Patti Smith
"Never let go of that fiery sadness called desire"
"Got to lose control before you take control."

Pep Rally

Pep
Rally
The band played
as the cheerleaders
danced their admiration
football players flexed
the crowd cheered
flashes seared
the night
with
hope

the field emptied
except
for a
crumpled
schedule
tumbling
in the wind
as
the
lights
went
out

The Stray

and
The stray would not be caught
Though I softly called to him
A fearful look was all I got
As the light quickly grew dim
In this special place of shade
Further ahead the dog goes
Splashing through the glade
Where the crystal water flows
Where soft spring moss lies
Growing loosely on the stone
With Winter's coming green dies
And turns to a winter tone
Helpless returning to home's lawn
Sadly he did not follow but was gone

I Dream Of Men

in jeans and pick up trucks
with crow's feet and smiles
etched forever in their faces

I dream of men
                                who say "ma'am",
                              "thank you kindly"
                                       and "howdy"
                            as they lift their hat

I dream of men
                    with heads full of dreams
                           and eyes full of hope
                         men that slap their hat
                          against their pants leg
                   to leave some dust outside

I dream of men
                         who whisper to horses,
                                                      dogs,
                                                 children,
                                               and ladies

I dream of men
                      who always carry a lariat,
                         a gun, a knife, lollipops,
                       and a willingness to help
                             in their pickup trucks

I dream of men
                        who know how to work,
                              laugh, love, and live
            with every ounce of themselves
leaving no doubt you are the only one
                                       in their dreams
