a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

No More Lollygagging

Though the weather doesn't suit me I have to work.  That's a self-appointed half to not a required have to. It was only 94F when I came in.  I am ashamed.

I have bored you with all my tree clipping, snake finding, brush pile building for weeks.  I know you are tired of it but so am I.  The last few feet remain in my yard and then on to Marcy's outbuildings, flowerbeds, fence clearing, and on and on.
Before
during as Lil keeps her snake eyes on
and after.
Another six feet on the side that faces the road and I will be through!  Back where I began.  As badly as we need rain I am glad I was able to complete all this making it easier to mow closely with less trimming.  Peeking around the corner it doesn't look too bad.  Will knock that out in no time but there are two stumps on this side that are barring all attempts at elimination.

Afterword:  Finished, done, complete, wrapped up in this yard...On to the next.

Solving Problems

Chestnut tree almost on power line
and a bird poop cherry allowed to grow too tall
Sick, weak and unwanted limbs sawed or pruned
Much progress
See the tongs?  Wood is stacked.
Small debris added to our ever growing pile.
Holding the tree with the tractor bucket so it will fall correctly.
Too many things to hit if it fell wrong.
Timber!
Doesn't look big but this was the tree by the power line.
Clean up continues.
We make walking sticks and vine wreaths for the shop.
The queen of distraction!
I'm not sure I will survive.

I Have A Project...

Those who know me will know I will be obsessed.  I was going to feel sorry for myself and curl into a fetal position and wallow in self pity.  I decided I can choose to make a big deal of the unexpectedly horrible weather or I can take advantage of it. I worked inside.
Here's my saw horse substitute
with my wood
and my saw.
Bare feet in the saw dust.
Remember the measure twice cut once rule?  Well it did not work for me.  I measured many times and cut many times and even had to shave the edge.  I had a ball!!!

I tried to keep up with the saw dust.  Rolled some rugs out of the way and went to work. I used a green pencil to make my marks just because that is the one I found.
I misplaced my pencil often.
Searching for the screws changed my path.
I sorted and I won't have to dig next time.
I side tracked and added an antique purex jug to dust.
Chose some more brown bottles recently excavated
to top the old school desk.
What did I build?
That's another post
and a half day away.

Rain, wonderful rain

Hay time has been a blast this year! During our second cutting of hay, Den was attacked by yellow jackets. We did go to the hospital not so much the stings but because of chest pains. He received a clean bill of health.

Next came raking, which ran pretty smoothly.

Baling was a different story. Den hit a limb, the bearings went out and the knives bent. The part search was on. We have a square baler cause it is easier for us both to handle.

Farming and working full time is lots of fun. A week later we found the part and back in operation. The weather was kind to us by not raining and not over drying the hay.

We called in our resources, daughters, son-in-law, nephew and grandson. The Polaris blew a tire and we are pulling the hay trailer with the tractor. Three evenings later we are finished as we can be.

Half of the barn roof is still gone from the tornado so we had to stack selectively to find a dry spot.

The rain has come and it was much needed. I am grateful it held until the hay was in. That was the longest dry spell we have had this year so Someone was helping us with our hay.

The days are shorter, the nights are cooler. We will be using the hay before long, I fear.
