Why We Plant or Fun With The Game Cam

We plant to feed the wild animals...wild turkey, quail, white tailed deer
Ignore the time and date, Hubby does not set it.
Magic rain would help the seeds grow.
Could this be the elusive chupacabra?
Enlarge and guess what this is to the right.
We have no idea.
The coyotes' cries fill the valley at night but this night only one came into view.

Plant It They Will Come

Every fall we have a few patches we cultivate and seed.  This will help the deer with green pasture through the winter.
Day
and night
 they rejoice their new cafe.
I'm glad we can help.
This year's fawns play a lot.
One lady was very curious.
What is that sound??

Good Fences

At the north end of our compound is the orchard.  The herd use this as their path through and to green pastures.  During fruit season they linger longer.

Hubby came to get me with my camera to witness the herd.  There were a dozen.  They were very alert and had been frolicking before I arrived.   I first shot through the screen, then through the window glass, then I slowly sneaked outside to get a clear view through a big lens (don't ask me what lens, I'm still learning).
They are moving toward our private road.
A few wandered over the cattle guard.
This one saw me and was sore afraid.
For those not familiar with this type of deer
the white tail "flag" is a warning for the herd.
Easy to see and tells them all DANGER.

If you're wondering what this has to do with fences
at The Run*A*Round Ranch's Good Fences
just take my word for it...
behind all that brush is a fence.

Cock-A-Doodle-Do...

Good morning to you!
If you don't want to go out,
We have windows with views.
Seven young bucks,
the biggest on the other side of the truck
They strolled and grazed,
headed for the orchard.

Farm dogs are fired!
Sleeping on duty.
They were tired from the 'possum hunt.
One last night and one this morning.
'Possums zero-farm dogs two.
Guess we'll keep the dogs.

Dusk...

As Ki and I stepped out for potty business, the deer were drinking from the spring.  I saw a few but this was the best shot.  We know why our winter garden hasn't fared so well.
The deer spied us and white-flagged as they left.  I heard the twang of wire as they tipped the fence leaving.
Sunday night the moon had lighted the valley but tonight we were wrapped in tight fog.  You could almost hear it moving.  I half expected to see the ship-wrecked sailors march through our valley as they did in the movie "Fog".

Ki attended to business as I stood lightly dressed, feeling the fog actually touch me.  A coyote called from the new pond and waited for an answer.  Was it a call to mate or to hunt?   The beauty nor the music was not lessened by my lack of understanding.

I hear cattle lowing from the next farm, and the calls of night birds were sprinkled here and there.  In the distance, a owl calls to the night.

The night was dressed heavily in fog.  No stars nor moon to see but the sounds were mysterious and almost hypnotizing in this valley we call At The Farm.

Seeing White

Almost dark, I am driving home and who do I see?
A mirror pair, one looking at me.
So strange to see, almost a statue, looking not quite real.
Then today, I see her in the neighborhood,
and whip my car into a side road, I know this is my chance...but she bounds away before I can get close enough.

My neighbors may be calling the law to report a drive by shooting...with the camera of course.  I am going to get the perfect shot, one of these days, I am gonna do it!
