It Was An Ice Cream Cone Kind of Day...

You know the kind you savor
and never want to end.
The sunrise was beautiful!
The day was springlike enough
that I caught spring fever.
At work, I cleaned and rearranged
while taking care of customers
who were also experiencing
the pleasure of a beautiful day.
Andrew competed in a talent show.
The students vote for a winner,
to be announced tomorrow.
The light was low with a zoom,
but you can get an idea how he was moving!
Whatever they announce,
Andrew is my champion.
Whether it was the hope of spring,
or just the fact I'm feeling better,
it matters not, it was good.
I stopped after work and worked again
with Bev in the shop.

Came home to dishes washed
and dinner cooked!
It was a blue ribbon day!
White Spotted will travel to south Arkansas,
taxes are filed,
only two puppies left to adopt
and I have pork and potatoes waiting!

I could use a handful of days like this.
Here's wishing you an ice cream cone day!

Monday....and Another Halter Leaves

Monday is never my favorite day of the week, unless it's a holiday, then Tuesday is my least favorite day. I knew today was going well when I stretched in the hall, fell backwards and hit my head on the heat register...man, that hurt. It was still hurting when I decided I needed to potty, reached to wipe and my entire side of my body went into muscle spasms. Maybe I tried to do too much this weekend. I knew it was gonna be a great day!
The sky told me it would get better,
and except for the lady
who HAD to have something during lunch,
 it wasn't too bad.
A few people had wanted to see my hillbilly halter rack, took a picture this evening.  Now, not only is my blue halter missing but my red one and its lead.  Where it was supposed to be, hung a crooked whopper-jawed bridle!  Oh, and my dining room smells like leather, one of my favorite smells!

Since the farrier came today, I tracked down Hubby and inquired about my red halter...he knew how the loss of the blue one drove me crazy.  He quickly located the red and returned it...lucky for him!

I also assisted the grand mechanic which consisted of standing, listening to him fuss, and being directed to find parts.  Okay, on a Monday, that didn't last long either.

So I am on strike tonight not because of anything other than I want to be on strike.  It will be an eat what you can find night.  The Closer is on and one of the few shows I watch.  I do love a sassy Southern lady who is in charge of a whole county.
The remainder of tonight will be spent
reading a book from my sister,
hiding quietly in my room.
Thank God, tomorrow is Tuesday.

September '08 The Beginning

I began to blog...like a house on fire.  I eagerly waited for the first comment. Equally excited, I've waited for each comment since.

I celebrated each follower. I measured my worth by the following...Almost three years later, I am still here, savoring each comment.

Thank you for following, supporting me, giving me good advice and just dropping in to say hi. I have loved every minute.
Sunrise or sunset?
You decide.

UPDATE:  JUST REACHED THREE HUNDRED FOLLOWERS, PLUS!

I must have a giveaway!!!  I am so thrilled and so proud.  I see some blogs that soar in numbers over night...I am a long distance runner but I seem to have finally reached a milestone.  I don't have much pizazz nor am I a literary guru.  All I can guarantee is I am here, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always here.

For those who have been brave enough to follow me, please leave a comment on this post. This will also be a great chance to ask questions and tell me what you would enjoy seeing.  One week from today, September 2nd, (Deadline 6PM 9/2/11) I will pick a name.  I will announce the winner September third...and compile a surprise package from At The Farm.

Thank you, without y'all I wouldn't be here!

This N That

First, I would like to declare this, Marcy's photo of the week.  I love this!  It is a sunrise but the sky was so hazy, it looks almost like the moon.
Marcy is celebrating the hatch of new babies.  A mixture of all kinds.  She sees laying hens, I see dumplings.
Andrew had company for a few days with an extra Thursday evening.  They were ghost hunting late into the night.  I was quietly watching them from the unlighted open kitchen window and welcomed the opportunity to scare the pea soup outta them.  I always try to have some fun where ever I can.
As I drove out to work one morning, our cows greeted me by the neighbors' field.   I sat for a moment in the car, thinking how I would herd them to the valley.  They began to run...away from the farm.  I remembered how hubby calls them and I tried my best hubby holler.  My favorite yellow cow threw up her head, turned the herd and almost beat me back down to the farm.

We have good neighbors.  I got a call at work Friday (remember how our old house was robbed?) that a strange truck was parked in the yard of the old house.  The neighbor described it as a beige step side truck and no one could be seen.  She asked if I wanted her to run them off.  I said, no, I'll call hubby.  Couldn't reach hubby, called Bev, she said, If I try to run someone off, they'll whip my butt. SOOOOOO, finally got ahold of hubby and it was him sitting at the old house in a SILVER Step Side Chevy!!!  Brave Bev came to get whipped and every one had a good laugh!  Except me.

The white deer has been spotted with a fawn this year but she is moving closer to the highway.  Hope she comes back to the protection of the hills and valleys.

Just a few snapshots of our week At The Farm...never a boring moment!

My New Year's Wish For You

May you witness many beautiful sunrises
and be blessed with fewer dirty dishes!
Happy New Year!

Autumn...

is undressing for winter,
although some colors still hold on.
Protected mums remind us of the beauty
that will be again.
One sweet potato plant yields much,
but the ground is hard and dry for digging.
The winter radishes are almost gone
and the snow peas are eaten by deer.
The sunrises are beautiful
showing bare trees.
The  plants dressed in frost,
dream of spring.

The Lack Of Power...

woke me this morning.  The absence of all electrical noises always wakes me...for a moment I wondered what was happening.  It had been such a long time since I had heard that magnificent sound...it was rain!!!
Life-giving, earth-renewing, air-cleansing rain!!!  It was a blessed sound to wake up hearing in a land that has ground so dry in some places, the cattle walking throw up little clouds of dust.

The rain has stopped now before five AM but who knows what the day may hold for us.  I would like to see a old-fashioned slow three day rain but the chances are slim.

Now I enjoy the morning sounds of water dripping from the roof, crickets and frogs singing their rain song as the roosters wake in the trees, crowing to welcome the dawn.
