a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Autumn Is Called FALL For A Reason

Killing frost has reached our valley.
The leafs rained down.
There are many more to fall.

We have mowed, mulched, raked, carried and blown leafs.  My water gardens look like compost piles! Hubby was kind enough to buy me a leaf blower, a new tool for me.  It makes clearing around the water gardens easier.

The compost/worm pit is full.  Plants are mulched.  The dogs are enjoying the large piles of leafs I haven't placed yet.

The work continues. I'm grateful I have so many beautiful trees to make oxygen for the sweet country air I enjoy every day.

We're extremely dry here. I'd enjoy a wet rain from the skies but this is part of the seasons. I embrace it.

Two Days Of Skies

Thursday the skies were blue and the trees looked like they were dressing and undressing for autumn.
Rain came Friday!!!!!
I'm sure there are many safety reasons you should not use a camera while you are driving but it has been so long without rain, I had to take a picture.  I am extremely grateful.

Crowned

Natalia Drepina

Autumn is close
hands still ashen
from summer fires
pick, preserve, ready
for winter's mire

Gather wood
to warm winter
nights a woman
crowned with work
but few delights

55 for Toads...

Autumn paints cool October mornings
Brushing the leaves
Mixing the palette of primary colors
Smearing them with delight
Creating colors we only see in fall
Autumn knows we mourn
The colors of summer
Applying her brush heavily
She paints
For us
When Winter arrives
With gray white cold
We’ll need those colors
In our heart
For Toads

Been Playing Again...

I have no photo program nor would I know how to use one if I did.  I'm almost computer illiterate but I'm learning, slowly and surely.  I had a place I could make collages, now I've forgotten where that was...oh, well.
Fall is entering our valley,
the fog lays low,
and the poke berries weep in colors.
Green remains on the ground and in some trees,
but not for long,
Autumn has arrived and she brings her own wardrobe.

Fried Green Tomatoes And All Things Fall

I can taste them!
Fall harvest
The autumn of my life is here and the autumn of the year. The mornings are chilly with a little bite in the air but it warms into a beautiful day. The rains have stopped for the moment and the mornings have a foggy look since the air is cooler than our water. Hubby has had a fire a couple of mornings.

Things still grow and Marcy is harvesting and putting up for winter. The squirrels are storing nuts too and it is a battle to see who gets the pecans first.

Fall is a sad time, an end of running barefoot through the grass and playing in the creek in the heat of the day. The grass will slow its growth and wait for the first frost to change it colors.
The leaves are beginning to turn and will soon turn loose and fall to the ground...
