a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Me and My Feet in October

My feet and I made friends with a tarantula.
 Found Beggar Lice seeds
Did a little fishing
Got down and dirty in the mud
and washed my feet in cool spring water.
My days with my flip flops are growing shorter..

Sometimes You Bend, Sometimes You Break...

Saturday Centus prompt by Jenny Matlock

Every week Ms Jenny gives us a writing prompt.  The rules are the same only the prompt changes.

PROMPT: "Sometimes you bend. Sometimes you break."
WORD COUNT - Not to exceed 106 (including the prompt)

STYLE OF WRITING - Any
PICTURES - Any Additional

Once upon an autumn day
Harry Tarantula came to play
Border Collie noticed the arrival
Didn’t consider it a threat to survival
As he reared to scare her away
Lil turned another way
The lesser experienced arrived on the scene
Had a discussion and thought Harry was mean
Lil tried to convince them to just stay away
But it’s a danger, Lil said, “No way”!
They jumped back with fear
While Lil just watched with upright ears
Her job was to train the upcoming team
"You need to assess what’s good and what’s mean.
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you break
Important thing is don’t make mistakes."

A Dog Adventure...Warning! Big Hairy Spider Involved

It's that time of year...
tarantula time.
Ki-Anne was barking her head off!
The discovery was almost more excitement
than fifteen-year-old Andrew could handle.
Can you see the enthusiasm?
Jake was a little more interested.
The dogs were extremely interested.
Ki invited others to join her in the great spider hunt.
Without thinking and with much regret,
I became an accomplice to tarantula homicide.
Ki and Lil went into action.  Note poor spider in lower right.
The gang joined in.
There were many firsts tonight...
I've never seen a tarantula on a power pole.
I've never purposely caused one's death.
I've never seen a dog attack one,
but Ki, unfortunately, is a very unique dog.
No hesitation,
she waded in.
The smell of one usually repels a dog,
but not my Ki.
Now, I am feeling totally guilty.
I have asked the spider's forgiveness.
I'm not sure I can forgive myself.

Tarantula Alert!

A recent siting caused much excitement At The Farm.  As the cool weather arrives, it is not unusual to see a tarantula  heading for winter cover.
Curiosity reigned in catdom.  After causing a kitten to jump straight up in fright, the adults decided to assess the danger.
They weren't very concerned.
After a complete inspection,
they allowed it to go on its way
Marcy followed, camera ready
and got this amazing shot of the fangs.

Tarantula

When I was growing up, I knew I was in trouble when I heard my whole name...well, DENNIS PAUL!!!!
My hubby caught a tarantula and was chasing Andrew with it. (Andrew has been trained to fear spiders by his mother). I guess you can imagine what broke loose around here.
The gremlins had been at my computer so I was TRYING to fix it. I heard screams of Nana, Nana.
As you can imagine with computer trouble, the day after a holiday, my lovely boss, and then screaming, yelling, laughing, running and more laughing, I almost lost it. I marched into the middle of the trouble, took the tarantula and dumped him outdoors.
That didn't solve the problem. My hubby is laughing and saying, I wish I had you on tape when you stomped in and got that spider! Andrew is upset cause I let Papa's spider loose. I said did you like being tortured with it? No, but still pouting.
So I grab a flashlight, find the d--- spider and bring it back in.
Now, no one is happy with that either. Den says I told you to let it go, Andrew says, I said you didn't have to catch it. So I give the bucket with the spider to Den and get back on the computer.
The commotion starts again! Den has told Andrew it is loose in his room cause I left the lid off the bucket. Den is laughing at Andrew so hard he can't stand! Then I say DENNIS PAUL and he knows he has gone far enough. Den admits he let the spider go outside much to Andrew's relief. I go back to the computer, hot, aggravated and still working...and I hear laughter!!!!
