Persimmons

Persimmon trees can be small
or very tall.
This time of year they are ripening.  Because of the dry weather the leaves have already fallen.  My horses loved persimmons and learned how to rub against the tree to make them fall.
Looks like a good crop this year.
These are wonderful for farm fights, ripe or green.  I have enjoyed many "fights" with cousins and sisters growing up.  Ripe they are soft and sweet.  When green, they are very hard and bitter.  Pick your ammo.  Each has its pluses and minuses.
The fruits are small but do vary with the type of tree
and the weather that year.
You basically eat the fruit and spit out the seeds.  Wild animals love them!  There are many great recipes for breads, cakes, and spirits.  The seeds are the famous winter forecasting seeds.  You cut the seeds and the shape you discover forecasts your winter.  Carolina Nana can show you how.  Her persimmon seeds predict a cold winter.  I'm hoping my forecast is different.

UPDATE:  Our seeds show spoons so lots of precipitation for this winter.

Boss Got Boots

Gibbs: Put 'em on. You can't work a field in high heels. [smiles]

I think my new Gibbs haircut might be lucky.  I found boots. The rubber boots I have been waiting for since my old ones died.  Here is the beginning of their demise.

I had two requirements, That they be waterproof and not slick on the bottom.  Today after almost a year of leaky boots and then none at all, I found them...two pair...may they last twenty years like the last pair.

The pink ones are for easy spotting in case I  get lost.  Hubby can find me easier.

I asked Hubby which pair.  He looked at black and camouflage.  I asked if he liked these.  You could tell he was struggling for the right words.  "They're all gonna get muddy," he safely answered.  I pointed out he could find me better with the pink ones if I fell over somewhere.  He gave in and said get both.  I think what he was really thinking was he will only have to see the pink ones half the time.
One pair is taller so I can wade deeper into whatever I decide to wade and my feet will be dry.
Hubby can't say much about footwear.  Look at his red flannel plaid slippers in this photo.

HEY, Y'ALL I GOT BOOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Now, it's almost flip flop weather.

Timothy Two For Two Shoes Tuesday

I have been slow in completing my water garden transformation.  It seems when I work on it I always find surprises.  Hubby denies having anything to do with it but the twinkle in his eye gives him away every time.

Paybacks have been greatly needed but my brain has been dull.  Other than slapping the bathroom door and making him yell and jumping out to scare him I haven't found any really good payback.

Well, today was the day.  Meet the wild creature for Two Shoes Tuesday, Timothy Two. Same size, same water garden so if one was placed there logic would tell you T2 was placed there also.
I have nothing against Alligator Snapping Turtles except they eat our fish and do bite what gets in their way. Hubby caught one from a river slough years ago that filled the entire bed of his truck.  This one also bit a large V in the boat paddle.  I respect them and they taste good.

So after I found T2 I thought, Hubby likes these so well I will just give this one to him.  I wrapped him in a cloth and carried him inside and excitedly asked Hubby to look at what I had found.
Hubby hunted for his flashlight he uses when he wants a good look at something...like arrow heads or rocks. I may have IMPLIED that it was a rock.  He accepted the wrapped object centered the light and unwrapped the SURPRISE.  He wasn't expecting movement and he almost threw it!  I guess I can call that half a pay back.

T2 swam away in the creek where the cattle were resting...but I'm still planning more payback.
