a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Sunday Morning With Horses...

After working so hard on the porch yesterday and cutting quilt blocks into the night along with all the other stuff that must be done, I decided to treat myself to some horse heaven this morning.  I did not know Marcy was spying on me (all pictures with me are Marcy's, the others are mine).  I combed manes and did some fly wipe...it was even too hot for that.  No halters were needed.  They soaked up the attention and so did I.  There is just something about a horse, I think, that is good for the soul.
Ki-Anne wanted to herd but I told her no, several times, before she listened.  There are no bad dogs, only bad trainers so I have a way to go.
The manes are a little scraggly since they graze in brambles and briars...our bush hog was broken for a while and hubby still hasn't completed all the bush hogging.
Arrow, sporting his untangled combed mane
Magic wondering when his turn would come.
and now happy with his new do.
The same place always gets tangled on Charme
I like to think Charme was bowing to the hair dresser but, sadly, she was only checking her leg.  It is hard to take pictures when they are all so close. I felt safe and surrounded by their love...and only in flip flops...again.
Would you say they are relaxed?
I even got some grooming of my own!
The perfect way to spend a morning.

Ki-Anne...

is trying her herding skills.
You can tell Arrow is impressed.
A still shot...how did I get that?
Moving on,
she continues to blur the camera.
This lady wears me out just watching her!
Never a dull moment with this girl around.

Morning Sun On Horses

I love the morning light.
Why is every one lined up, you ask.
I am bringing fresh corn on the cob.
Every one rallies for a position,
ready for a treat.

Magic Man is on the bottom of the rung.
Broken Arrow ties for top.
Charme floats, depending on her mood.
The boss, Knot.
The light is perfect.
The corn is good.
Morning light makes even the backside look good.

What Color Is Broken Arrow?

These shots are different times and coat conditions.

Arrow is registered as a bay.

I sent colt pictures to the registry and let them choose a color.
They said he may turn to silver bay.
He is looking dun to me but still has all his black tips and points.
He also has the stripe.
I love the color but I want to call it right.
His legs are producing some silver hairs now.

A challenge to all you horse lovers,
What color is my horse?

He's Back!

Arrow will be three in May.
Chadir's Broken Arrow has rejoined the farm team.  Sam is very pleased with his progress.  In fact, if he is ever for sale, Sam wants first chance at this boy.
Every one had to get reaquainted.
It was a successful day!

Last Horse Standing

The title has nothing to do with this post, except the horse part, well, and it was standing.  I just like the way the line sounded.

Broken Arrow shows the reason for his name in this shot.

Time to go to Trainer Sam's where she can work her magic.  We started almost too late in the afternoon, because unlike our Magic Man, Arrow was not interested in loading.  He was interested in nothing but Mama.

Sam tried food, loving, leading but Arrow was not going in that trailer.  She ground worked him, led in in the field, still no prize.

If you remember, Arrow is the son of Knot and Charme, an Arabian and a Haflinger.  He is beautiful but just a tad stubborn.

Sam thought maybe if Mom loads, son will load.  Well Mom loaded and that is as far as that went.  Then tying them together to load was an idea, still no luck.

The sun was setting so we had to rely on the old standby, chute loading.  It worked.  As the sun dipped below the horizon, the trailer drove out of sight.

Soon I will have four horses trained to be ridden and I am not trained to ride.  I have ordered "Riding Horses For Dummies", hope that will help.
