Persimmon...The Weather Predictor

We have many trees over the farm.  Persimmons are edible.  Humans and birds gather them by day.  Deer and night creatures consume them when dark falls.
Hubby split some seeds.
Spoon means wet heavy snow.
Fork calls for feathery snow and a mild winter.
Knife is for icy cutting winds.
Looks like a spoon to me!
Double checked.  No doubt about it being a spoon.
Five seeds later I'm still trying to find a fork prediction with no luck.

The Things I Do For Pictures

I climbed this tree because I always have.
It is a large tree that slants across the creek as it grows upward.
I forgot I am sixty-one now but I knew there would be photo opportunities.
From above I watched Lil cool in the creek
I dropped my lens cap...in a snaky looking spot.
I hesitated but finally climbed down with caution and retrieved it.
But not before I shot the tree I was in...
The tree was impressive as a child but now it's almost scary.
I fear these may be the last photos you see from here!

Do Trees Dream?

If so...
I think this tree dreams of the sea.
A ship's figure head grows here.

Raising The Dragon

The Dryad/Tree/Dragon rested where we left her after my great discovery and rescue.  I was beginning to think she looked more like Alien than the dragon I first saw.  She had to be moved
to enable her to take flight from this perfect stump Hubby found.
Turning her carefully we hold our breath. Placing her in the right spot was important.  Andrew and Hubby knew and were very gentle with the placement.
For now she rests ready to take flight waiting for me to give her wings.
Even with my extra pieces piled on top when I wet the stump beneath she became more real.
It will be a challenge helping her escape.

Eclectic

is the best word ever.  I now have a style!  I like the odd things and now instead of someone saying, "Her style is a little crazy.  Bless her heart",  I can be eclectic and all is forgiven.
Here is a barbed wire wreath with a tree knot.
A barbed wire "nest" with rusty pliers "birds"
My bone tree
with bird feeder.
Perfect for the upcoming holiday.
A experimental solution
for a trash bag in your car.
The grocery bags fit perfectly inside,
and are fastened on each side over buttons.
The white part is elastic and the entire bag is washable.
.
I will fine tune my idea with color coordination
and different shapes..
Not bad for the first prototype.
This may be adjusted for a glove box trash container.
Scary?

Happy Halloween!

"There's A Little Black Dot On The Sun Today

It's the same old thing as yesterday..."  The Police, King of Pain.
Rock,
rock,
rock,
 trees,
rocks...
Since this is not Rock, Paper, Scissors I'm not sure which one wins.
The title has nothing to do with the post, I just keep singing this song!

Resurrecting The Dragon

I discovered the trapped dragon on a cool autumn day in a dry creek.  She could not escape without my help.  I called out the big equipment and climbed carefully down into the unknown to help resurrect this lady.
Stopped in her tracks and trapped here for decades maybe centuries of floods.  Once majestic now worn and polished by time, sand and water.

I carefully placed the logs tongs around her middle and stood by for the big equipment to safely extract her.
 Up she rises, wings
as if in flight.
Lizzy directed my climb out by cheering me on.
As the dragon rested I planned safe transport.
While the Man In Charge directed (much like Lizzy)
I hooked my dear dragon for her home journey.
I hooked her again
and again.
 She is airborne!
Almost home
She lies in wait for me to awaken her magic.

The Trouble Began With One Rock

Trying to have a relaxing day and you know for me that is being barefoot and hunting for rocks. Hubby is always willing to help me out cause he can include his side trips like checking the feed plots for the wild game and just rolling over the acreage with dogs running along with us.

I viewed the dry creek, exploring barefoot where my feet had never been.  I saw this jewel of a rock. Perfect natural hole and my mind starting working or not, depending on whose telling the story.  This became my new perfect stone for my rock/water garden.  This would be my new feature piece with water running through it.

But first, and there's always a but, I needed the orange rock/gravel that are only in one place At The Farm so with some other companion rocks carefully selected while I dodged thorns and briers. we set off  to harvest some orange rocks.
We flushed a huge covey of quail.  As usual I was too slow to catch them all.  These beautiful birds are just one reason why we plant food plots each year in the fall.  So on the way to the orange rocks we checked the second food plot which is doing poorly because we've only had drops of rain since it's been planted.

Orange rocks gathered in my shirt tail because the bucket I brought holds moss and they just wouldn't work with moss.  Not just yet anyway.
Sometimes Hubby humors me and let's me take pictures...
at a slower speed than breakneck.

Remember what started all this...one holey rock.  I began to tear down my water fall and arrange it around this new grand holey rock.  I had a smaller one but I like to go big.  I worked for hours and stacked, rearranged and scattered rocks to my heart's content.

When the pond began it was one tractor tire from my life that I always remember seeing.  It's purposes have been varied from a tire to a chicken water trough, to a pig feeder to a flower bed and many other things.  When I saw it again, I thought it deserved an honorable place in my yard since it had been around my entire life.

So I happily worked with water and rocks and played with dogs which is kinda a perfect day in my book.  When I first constructed this water fall I had expand-a-foamed the rocks on top of the liner.  It held awhile but now it was loose.  I had the great idea I didn't need new foam but hoped to hold the liner with rocks.  Plugged the pump back in and declared it complete until the next time.

Checked on it a few hours later and my water garden had become a water balloon.  The poor Koi were swimming around the rim in very little water.  With out my expand a foam seal as the water fell down the water fall, it ran UNDER the lining.  I am glad I looked.  I weighted the liner in the middle with rocks, unplugged the pump and closed it down for the day.

Good Poetry Is

a rock that shines in the shadows
a tree that bends with no wind
a water plant in drought
stardust in your hair
water droplets after a rain

"good" poetry comes
writing itself
leaving me surprised
and breathless
with its truth.

good poetry
spews and bubbles
like a science student volcano
and grows and flows
i transcribe the dictation

and when its finished
i step back and read
filled with joy
and say, Wow!
who wrote that?

Oiling My Organ

Oiled my organ
Dusted my drawers
Spent my holiday
Doing chores
Trimmed some trees
Picked up some glass
My energy's waning
I'm dragging my *ss

The Widow Maker

The wind was blowing the trees.  Hubby was awfully nervous because close to us was a dead tree that had lodged in the the limb of another tree.
He moved the Gator and asked me to stand somewhere else.
Of course I asked why.
He answered, Because that's a widow maker!

Through the years this name was assigned to a tree lodged in another. It was very dangerous to attempt a cut because you could not judge the fall line thus the name...widow maker.

How Do You Top A New Grandson?

We have cows? What are they doing over there?

Beautiful fall colors are beginning to show.

Princess sticking her head where it does not belong!

She had to have help getting out of this.

Have you ever seen a snake skin Black Walnut?

I thought after having a new grandson,
I might not find any pretty pictures.

Did not have a problem at all, just had to look around the farm. There is never a shortage of interesting pictures around here. I love seeing the beauty in a rock or a fallen feather or just the bark on a tree. I am completely content just walking and looking. There is always beauty. Now if they could just put this in a pill, a lot of people would be stress free.
