When we moved to the farm, I found the old tractor tire as we were cleaning up the place. I could not throw it out but I had to find a new purpose for it to justify keeping it.
I turned it into a water garden. I dug a hole much deeper than the tire, lined it, tacked the liner to the edges and trimmed the liner with my pinking shears. Filled it with water and gold fish and plants, decorating with rocks.
It has suffered from my neglect and Sunday was my day to get that baby clean. I took all the rocks out, caught the frogs and set them out and proceeded to clean stems, leaves and pecans from the bottom. There had been a few spilled flower pots along the way so there was mud too.I potted a water lily and water irises and planted some parrot grass along the edge. Cleaned and replaced rocks.
Kept going until the water was almost clear. The rest will settle out and the water will be clear by morning. Don't know what the family members think but the dogs are loving the fresh water.
The guys did bring me some baby perch so I have a natural water garden. The bonus is I have repurposed an old memory.

I like your pond very much. The old memories it holds make it even more special. You've done a nice job.
That is an excellent ideal. It is beautiful too. I sunk a round 12 foot metal pool like that at my old home. It is so nice to sit there and reflect on the water and watch the fish swim. It is good Zen. Enjoy.
Good Job! It looks great.
I would love to have a pond... could you come over and make me one??
what a neat idea..tho and it looks like you sure did a superb job!!
Hope all is going well..haven't been hitting the blogs as much, lately, busy with life...sorry.
Loved your post on your dream..I always want to know what my dream mean..guess they are there to make you think!!
Wonderful idea! Great way to use the old tire. I love the sound of that word, "repurposed".
Great job, kid. You're a very useful woman to have around. Very resourceful.
What a great idea! I loved how you reused the tire...it will now bring joy to you and the critters that live in and around it...=)
What fun having a 'excuse' to get wet, it looks great Gail, and I'm sure it will just get better as it fills in:)
I like the pond idea, I remaried almost 2 years ago to a man who loves stuff, and lots of it. It's taken a while to get the stuff organized, but now I'm finding a fondness for reusing or repurposing the junk yard scrap into things I need for my garden. I have many tires that I use for gardening, they hold my Rhubarb, Horseradish, lettuce, Strawberries and herbs.
