a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

We Shall Overcome

The dog who fears water
Named Number Eighteen and Lizzy she became.
Lizzy has joined the pack of water dogs...finally!
Lizzy is still not a joyful swimmer even after four years but she braved chest deep.
We're proud of you, Lizzy!

Me and My Feet

After my feet and I had burned a brush pile and grass burrs I'd picked, we took a Gator ride to deliver Tractor Man to his tractor in the New Ground fields.

It was warm for a run up the hill. I'm a softie so old lady Lil and Lizzy got to ride in the Gator seat with me. They'd run along with us and were so hot.  We stopped at the creek.  My shoes were quickly discarded.
We walked in together, the dogs, my feet and I.
The water was cool
It was clear when we entered.
Clear didn't last long.
The dogs made quite a splash and stirred up the mud.
The cow flies, mosquitoes and deer flies were feeding on us as we cooled.
Even though the water was low there were some good pools to chill in.
We even liked the mud.
My self portrait and the dogs were cool and happy as we reflected.

How Does An Old Gray Lady Cool Off?

It's been hot.
Walks and runs are really hard
on this pair of stiff gray ladies.
We know where the cool spots are
and still play now and then.
Lil smiled as I waded in.
Stay cool.

Cavorting Water Bugs

create watery illusions with faces.
Colors and images
you might not see magically appear
when you allow the camera to record
what is really there.
Water skaters
and water bugs
paint in water
seeming to favor circles.
Nature...the ultimate artist.

Jumping Into Spring

with all feet in our neck of the woods.
Flexing those winter slow muscles,
joyfully playing in the dirt,
and tracking down jobs.
 Things are going swimmingly
even with all the sh**.

The Creek

ran clear when we began.
A rousing game
of tossing sticks
stirred things up a bit.
The dogs
didn't mind.
