a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Springs and Fields and Autumn Skies

From the first spring the water flows to join with the second and third spring to make our creek.  I always thought the first was a wet weather spring but it is still flowing enough to fill the branch.
I always talk about how clear the water is but usually the dogs hit it before I get to show you.  Here's a clear spot beginning to look like fall.  A good gully washer or chuck floater would clean the creek out so it would not get as muddy.
It doesn't stay clean long when the dogs cool off.  Deep enough for some to swim.  Lizzy is staying away from the deep water and tip toes through the shallows.
The dogs failed to see my tiny frog.  There were several jumping in.  The dry weather has thinned their swimming holes.
A cowless field with blue skies and mown grass that only deer and rabbits will eat this year is a bitter sweet sight.  I'll talk differently when the ice and snow are blowing.  Will NOT miss the cattle then.

Hubby and Me and Dogs Make Eight

A hornet's nest found in a field.  I've seen them in trees and even on houses but never like this.
Obviously no one was home.  Bonnie has not learned her lesson about sticking her nose in someone else's house.  One day she sniffed a wasp nest and was stung.  The entire pack ATTACKED the wasp nest and killed all the wasps while poor Bonnie was rolling in the sand to stop the pain.
Having traveled the entire run with us the dogs were eager to cool off.  Didn't take long to muddy the creek.  It's entirely too low and too dry.  The ponds are dropping.  We need rain badly.  Miss Lil, our short haired Border Collie, knows how to cool.
Lil, Squiggs and Junior all cool off.  Bonnie is off on her only little side trip and Lizzy is staying clear of the water. As soon as we drove in the yard Bonnie jumped into her personal water garden and laid down.
Diamond Lil is not taking any chances on being too hot.  Ki-Anne even stops for a quick cool off.
Hubby stayed in the Gator but I had to walk the creek.
It was nice to be out, not on a job, just relaxing and looking.  A good day for reflections.

October...

October weeps for summer
Rents her colorful veil
Does Summer die
When Autumn comes
It’s hard to tell

Wrap her quilt around you
Of oranges yellows and red
October embraces you
From your toes
To your head

If Spring is a child
Summer is youth
October is
Grandmother’s love
Wrapping you in truth.

Who Has Stolen My Time?

It's October.  I'm not through with spring's work!  I continue to thin, sort, stack and clean the old house.  I have the second room finished and now must finish the slanted room so I can repair that floor.
I have deleted another pile and discovered treasures.  I have pulled enough lumber from under the old house to be able to repair, I hope, the board and batting outside.
Here's a shot of my structural problem with this third room.  The floor has simply dropped from the side beam support.  I am hoping beyond hope I'll be able to use a floor jack and return it to its original position. I've noticed they've sistered some floor joists. I won't know until I get this room empty.  If I work hard maybe a three day job. Trouble is I can't find three whole days anywhere.
I'm working myself to the bone.  I may even be dehydrated and delusional because I thought this find needed to be documented. It's a pack rat just like me.
I sidetracked on a rock hunt and found these colorful beauties.  Notice the awesome fossil in the lower rock.
Made my day with discovery of iron ore, few and far between, either from a meteorite or a volcanic rock.  Without a degree in geology or rocktopgraphy (I know, not a word, but I like the sound of it) I'll just have to guess.

Sisters, Marbles and Clouds

Mavis and Bonnie had to get reacquainted and that always involves butt sniffing and other things dogs do.  Mavis had not visited for a while so she had to stay on lead.  She's a city dog and doesn't know about chickens and cats.  They had a good time together after they got the important stuff outta the way.
You can certainly tell they are sisters from the back side and from the front.  Good dogs!
Slowly gathering my marbles
soon
I may recover them all.
I'm still working on farm projects.  Guess that will never change but I do remind myself to look up now and then and enjoy the creation around me.
