a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

What Did Your Flip Flops Do Yesterday?

Mine rested on the creek bank as I crossed to plant seeds in the wild life garden.  I planted Kentucky Wonder beans, two kinds of pop corn, cantaloupe and a variety of other seeds.  We shall see what happens.
Rescued a catalpa tree from honey suckle and briers.
After...I think the tree may fare better now.
I enjoyed tiny wild flowers
and watched plums bloom against a beautiful sky.
My bare feet played as my eyes feasted on the new growth of spring.
My flip flops were happy.

The Portal To Fall

Sun's light reflection reminds me of a space portal
but fall is really a time portal.
The poke berries ripen for the animals to eat.
Colored leaf in spring water
The fields have seeded
and the trees show a hint of fall color
Wild flowers give a last hurrah as they share their pollen
Color shows more
as fallen leafs fill the creek.
We wait for precious rain.

Exploring Natural Vegetation

 Indian Turnip?
 or Ginseng?
Fungi and no, Alex, I don't know what kind of fungi!
 sabatia angularis
Bitterbloom
Button Willows around the pond
All enjoyed on an August day At The Farm.
May your day be full of beauty.

The Rains Came...

Blow, winds, blow!
Leafs fell because of heat and no rain.
The rain came
and kissed the plants.
Washing their feet and their faces
the plants smiled
knowing they were blessed.
It has almost been too long.

Alex, Mad Snapper and Wild Flowers

I have tried multiple times to capture
this beautiful waxy wild flower
from the Buttercup family.
Need to take some more camera lessons
from the Mad Snapper.
Red clover is the only evidence other than total damage to field and creek that Entergy Power left. We were supposed to be fully seeded with no damage.  Comedians, I guess, cause they certainly were not people that respected land.
Another wild flower, this time in the Aster family.
All these are identified for Alex 'cause he always asks,
 "But what kind is it?"
Confirmation that dandelions can grow anywhere.
Look closely.
There is a tiny frog in the center no larger than my thumb nail.
I'm guessing it is a Blanchard's Cricket Frog.

Alex has a new science fiction novel published,
a blog with movie reviews and great information.
He even takes time to help insecure writers like me.
Thanks, Alex.
You Rock!

Today Was Great...

weather wise and other wise.  I worked at the shop and stayed busy cleaning, tagging, and talking.  As I drove home I remembered the old spring where we use to find Morel mushrooms.  Leaving my car parked in the middle of the road just because I could I headed for the spring.
First thing I hit quick sand and went in up to my knees.  I lost both shoes and had to dig them out.  Knew what was happening in time to put my camera safely in my pocket.  After getting out of this mess I followed the spring washing the mud off and out of my shoes.
I found mossy logs and rocks.  The weather was perfect.  The spring begged me to follow it.  The briers tried to stop me.
I found beautiful wild flowers, new spring plants, clear water and a sense of being one with the land.
I didn't know the wild flowers' name
I even climbed a tree.
Not up it but over instead.
This is one tree we lost from our tornado in '08.
The spring was hidden on land that was once Dad's
 but no longer ours.
No luck with Morels but I found a raccoon's track
The spring could not hide from me.
I headed back the way I had come.
We would not have morels for supper tonight
but the wild flowers
 and the walk
and the woods
made me admire Creation all the more.

Wishing you all a "walk on the wild side".

A Walk With Dogs

Notice the pack lining up behind the flowers
We explored the creek
Found a rabbit den/nest
Yep, that's my finger.
Discovered a tree with strange scratches
Searched for varmints
and enjoyed the tiny wild flowers.
