The Sky Had Promise...

as I drove to work.
The clouds kept changing on my short drive.
There were rumors of rain.
At work, my dream came true.
The rains came and washed the dust away.
It was slow.
It was beautiful.
The plants seem to hold themselves at attention,
since the rain.
It rained slowly, gently, all day.
The beauty of the afternoon called me to walk.
I viewed the garden from afar,
and from up close.
I played in the mud where we find arrowheads.
When I saw the sky on the walk back,
I knew I had to share.
Back to the spot where I began,
refreshed,
and renewed.
The fog began to rise in the valley.
Precious rain and a wonderful walk...
life doesn't get much better than that!

It's Raining...

it's pouring,
the old man is snoring!
Really he has been snoring, off and on all day while I buzzed around him doing laundry, picking up, and cleaning the kitchen...then I left him!  Just hopped in my car and left his butt in the recliner.

I had a mission.

All those boxes we've been packing and hauling, all that thinning we've been doing is finally getting closer to being sold.  My two daughters, Bev and I unpacked, priced, placed on shelves and emptied lots of boxes.  Hopefully, we will be ready to open our doors the weekend of the City Wide Yard Sale.  We are not putting it all out at once, just filling the shelves and as they empty, we will fill them again.  Can't even tell anything is missing from my house except for the pile of boxes.  Bev says this is just the first round from our houses.  We will come through and thin some more.  We are all tired of our life being ruled by things.  I can hope the things I part with will bring someone else the pleasure they have brought me.

I knew the rain was coming yesterday...we ALL ached and hurt and moaned and groaned.  The rains came and we smiled.  Oh, Texas, I would share if I could.   We were dry.  This morning we got an inch and it rained again.  We are truly blessed.

What’s This Strange Stuff?

Thunder, lightning, rain…
amazingly beautiful and greatly appreciated.

The sights and sounds from my front porch.
we have rain, and I'm smiling!

The Darkness...

pushed its way across the sky.  The sun still shined but in the distance, the curtains of rain were visible.
The lightning split the sky as I drove through a whirlwind of summer-dead leaves.  The car rocked, resisting the wind force, as I drove closer to the storm.

The darkness deepened, the winds strengthened, as I entered the power of the storm.  I passed farmers, desperately, hopefully, fruitlessly, trying to bale the hay before the rains arrived.  I knew they had lost the race, when the rain pelleted my windshield, joining the wind.

As the rains fell, I imagined the dry ground welcoming the renewal as the grass sighed.

Twelve Hundred And Counting...

posts, that is.  Been here since September '08.  I've met many wonderful people during my blog journey, people I would never have met in my ordinary life.

Thank you all for making me laugh, making me feel important and even, sometimes, making me cry.  You have been my anchor in many storms, my shoulder to cry on and my cheering section when I needed encouragement.

Yes, these are crocuses, a sure sign of spring trying to break out of the brown and white we are all tired of seeing.
These are the deer who trimmed the tulips last night.
The Kubota excavated dry creek channeled the three inch rain we had in one day and it did not threaten Marcy's house.  The ponds are full once again and the green is beginning to show.  I am hopeful spring is almost here but the biggest snow (eighteen inches) I remember arrived in late March.
Egg production is increasing.
The new calves are tagged and tattooed.
Ki-Anne still holds my heart in her paws
as life goes on At The Farm.

The Lack Of Power...

woke me this morning.  The absence of all electrical noises always wakes me...for a moment I wondered what was happening.  It had been such a long time since I had heard that magnificent sound...it was rain!!!
Life-giving, earth-renewing, air-cleansing rain!!!  It was a blessed sound to wake up hearing in a land that has ground so dry in some places, the cattle walking throw up little clouds of dust.

The rain has stopped now before five AM but who knows what the day may hold for us.  I would like to see a old-fashioned slow three day rain but the chances are slim.

Now I enjoy the morning sounds of water dripping from the roof, crickets and frogs singing their rain song as the roosters wake in the trees, crowing to welcome the dawn.
