a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Spanish Needles Are Not My Favorite

They grab you and hang on
but there's beauty in their symmetry.
and nectar in their flowers.
has smartly adapted it's seeding method, guaranteed.

Could call it porcupine weed too!
We have a weed around here, not sure of the name.
If you get close to it . . . you are covered . . . and I mean COVERED
in tiny black stickin' round like ball like thingies . . .
And if Snickers the dog is near . . . her curly longer hair is gets COVERED too!
The joys of being outdoors . . .

It reminds me of little I stray from the house that I haven't had to pick any off me for several years.

I do so hate these things and never knew the name of the plant or needles and they are so difficult to get out of clothing or socks.. also off dogs fur... great shots of the flower, I have not seen them looking like that, only like what is on your socks.

Lovely shots!

Good thing you weren't barefoot and in shorts!

I've never heard of these, and that's ok, we have plenty of sharp sticky weeds here as it is. But you are right about the beauty of the symmetry... on the plant, and not stuck in your clothing, which must surely be a pain to remove. Like you I have to marvel and this wonderful plan for seed dissemination though, pretty clever!

They look to be as bad as burdock.

I don't think we have that around here. And pretty as it is, I am glad!
Blessings to you all. ^_^

Nature never ceases to amaze me. The way that it adapts and perseveres inspires me. Of course, with beauty comes ugly, as in pain. There must always be this balance in life.

It really does look like little needles. Are they spikey?

My pit bull pulled them off me and ate those too along with the beggar'lice. We use to call them "one hangers" as one side attached better than the other.

Your last part rhymes! I have never heard of these. We have cockle burs, they are round. Good grief they do a job! I think your leg would be bleeding if not for the socks. I don't think I have ever seen any, but they are small. I will keep my eye out for them.

Hi Gail ... With regard to your question about cholesterol foods - Graham posted this reply link up on our blog. I've given it here but please note Graham said he would give number five a miss ... Graham is diabetic.

With regard to your post here - can't say I've come across these, they do seem sticky!

All the best Jan

For some strange reason I haven't come in contact with many of these this year: but the beggar lice made up the lack!
