a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Confession/Mess-Up Continued...

We lost the runt.  Granny Pruett, a midwife, always said, Nature knows.  Never lost a runt before but there was something not right about this little one, other than it's size.  Ki and her other little peppers are flourishing.
They still shine, and at eight days old,
they know how to whine.
Ki places my old house shoes with them
when she leaves the nest.
Only two have full tails,
the rest wear natural short tails.
Six boys and one girl.
Each adopter will receive a free spay/neuter certificate,
prepaid by me, through our local ICARE.
I think that'll make my mistake a little easier to accept.

I just have to say...
AREN'T THEY ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE??

Sad for the runt. The others look good and so cute. Very interesting that Ki leaves your shoe near them. Maybe that's a her way of saying to the pups, "your safe" :)

They are pretty darn adorable.

So sad about the runt- did the runt have a tail? I've been doing a lot of reading about the genetics of the no-tail genes, and having a double copy of it is fatal, and if the puppy survives long enough to be born, they often have serious defects such as no anal opening.

they are. i agree. your spay/neuter prepay idea is a great one. :)

They are getting even cuter..how's that possible.
Yep Nature knows. Every time I have tried to get in the way of what is Nature's way, I am humbled by my lack of knowing. I can't tell you how many turtles babies I have tried to foster and save. My granddaddy used to say that God does not make mistakes but that Mother Nature takes care of the do overs.
I love that these babies will be the last of their line. And that Ms. Kai will get to be free and easy after her pups have left the nest. This is a huge win/win. Linda

Awwww, I wish I could come visit just to listen to them whine, and chuff and snortle. Puppies make such cute sounds and those pups sure are cute. I love the variation in colors.
I love that Kai puts a surrogate mom in with them. What a sweetie - and she doesn't even have a Dr. Spock book to tell her what to do!

Yes they are adorable..Ki has had to grow up pretty fast..the slipper may be a good substitute in her mind:)

Oh my, if only all our mistakes could be as cute as that pile of puppies!!!

God bless and I sure hope ya have some new slippers on your Santa list!!! Heeehehehe :o)

They sure are cute, Gail. I would like to scoop them up and cuddle all of them. Too bad about the runt, but as you said, Mother Nature knows best. Some things are not meant to be. Ki does a good job being a Mom and leaving your slippers with them. How smart of her. XOX

They are soooo adorable! Sorry to hear you lost the runt.

They look like they are doing great. So cute how Ki leaves your shoes. Is that her way of leaving you in charge?? When you see the shoes mom, it's your turn to take care of them. :)

I don't believe in mistakes...only miracles. Enjoy every precious moment they really fly when they are that little.

They are so sweet. I am sorry about the runt, but, as you say, Mother Nature knows best. I think you are being very kind as to pay for the neutering of these dogs. Yes, you have learned your lesson.

Rudee said...

Yes, yes, you may have messed up there, but you are blessed. Wish I was there to inhale all those sweet new-puppy smells. Looking at that sweet black and tan face makes me want one! Wish I didn't live so far away.

Be careful what you wish for, Rudee, I can mail these puppies!

She seriously puts a slipper in there? I love her even more!

Awww Ki is such a great mommy and her pups are adorable! I like your idea of the spay/neuter coupon. You know you can also have people sign a contract for spaying or neutering (I think you can still do it even for free pups). I can't wait to see pictures of them as they open their eyes and start walking. :D

Sorry about the runt, but it was probably for the best if something seemed off about it.
