The Meal by Paul Gauguin
Three children sat at their table
No forks nor spoons nor ladles
The knife still lay
Pointed their way
Parents lay dead near the cradle.

You sure caught me by surprise! Chilling. That knife seems to be front and center.
Oh, my goodness!
ha. now that is gruesome....i like the knife pointing at them as to lay blame....
That's a whole new interpretation of that Gauguin painting. It would put the art world in an uproar. Well done, Gail. Very chilling. xox
Interesting. I looked at the picture for quite a while, deciding how I might respond to the challenge. I wasn't sure why the children had such strange looks, perhaps even horrified, on their faces. You certainly addressed that aspect!
The Middle Child did it!!
Good one, Gail!

It's been a year since I've blogged and much has changed...I remember this was one blog I followed faithfully, and hope to again. You are on FB?
Not your usual bedtime story for kiddywinks! :)

Well done, Gail.

I needed that chill! What an imagination!!
Holy Moly, that was chilling. Fantastic.
Typically, limericks are funny or satirical. Your limerick here is surprisingly dark and horrific. A creative twist on a popular style of poetry, Gail. Thank you for sharing this unique write. =D
Love it when poets head in a totally different direction ... great job.
Wow.
Good job, Gail.
Dark...unexpected jolt at the end...
