"Here is a picture of what it now looks like across the road (about 150 meters from our house). It was too close for comfort. Cleaners will be in our home all week treating everything for smoke damage.
The fire is currently 100% contained but not out. It consumed over 14k acres, 511 homes, and two people in our heavily wooded, marginally populated area. It would have been much worse if the homes were closer together like last year's Waldo Canyon fire."

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too close for comfort!!!
A bushfire came that close to my family home a few years ago. Most sickening moment of my life!!
Oh Gail this had to have been so frightening for your friend. It makes me so sad. I am glad that that is as close as it came. My prayers go out to all who are in that area. B
So scary.
Whoa! That is too close for comfort. Glad your friends are all right.
Wow , my heart goes out to Colorado ~ really rough.
Way, way to close. Sorry your friend had to endure this, happy she/they are safe.
Devastating destruction occurring from wind, water, fire in the past few weeks/months!
this is so horrible, I have seen images like this on TV and it is mind boggling to think of that many homes gone.
The devastation of fire is so horrific. I know nature heals itself and can come back strong. It is still such a devastating thing when it happens.
I have a friend who lives in Colorado Springs, and works close to where this fire was. She said that the devastation was heartbreaking.
so incredibly sad - and terrifying.
I would have been terrified. That's really close. Too close.
Have a terrific day. ☺
That must have been terrifying living so close to such a big fire. My heart goes out to all of those affected and all the creatures who lost their homes and lives in it too.

I was confused, at first, thinking somehow you lived in Black Forest! I couldn't figure out how I had missed that!
I feel for your friend. Oh, my. My former neighbor friends weren't that close.
So sad for all concerned. That was really close:(
Gail,
The fires in Colorado were so terrible. I'm happy your friend was okay and her house was safe. Sorry to hear she had smoke damage throughout her place.
Scary stuff. We had a lot of fires in So. California when I was growing up, many of them near our neighborhood. They are so destructive, and they move so quickly.
Glad all is relatively well for your friend.
Whew! I thought that you were saying this was by YOUR house! So glad that your friend AND YOU are okay! :)
So scary and devastating.
omg...that is frighteningly close...and think i would be just fine only needing cleaners...
This must have been just so frightening for your friend. We had a few fires by our home during the drought, and I was terrified.
It is so sad to see such devastation - we still drive by " now-swamps" that burnt right up to the edge of our olde highway, but on the small mountain there is now green growing. This would be quite a scare for your friends Gail to be so close to this terrible devastation. I am thinking about all those people affected by this and my heart goes out to each and every one.
I visited Yellowstone after the huge fires that swept through there many years ago, it was such a sad, sobering sight. The beautiful thing is nature's ability to begin healing itself after such devastation, starting small, but someday growing mighty trees again, God willing!
Wow! So scary!
Fire destroys so much and yet it renews the land in ways that we can't/don't imagine.
