Watching the lightning grateful for the cool and enjoying the scent of fresh
rain we spoke of past weather and the effects.
A huge multi-limbed wild animal of lightning ran across the sky followed
immediately with deafening thunder. We knew the sound of lightning striking but
we didn't know what it had hit.
Come morning we traveled the hilltop to check. Not only had the lightning
struck and split a huge oak tree, it has also killed eight cattle who had rested
under it.
The herd bull, in death, leaned against the tree as if scratching an
itch in life.

Wow Gail good job and sad story. B
Not your bull I hope . . .
awww. sad story, but i liked it, too.
multi limbed wild animal of lighting...ha...love that description...ugh though on all the cattle...that is def sad...seeking a bit of shelter....
You highlight the perils of being a bovine and seeking shelter from a lightning storm very well! Lightning will make me run for cover every time!
I hope that story was not based on reality, but you told it well. I feel very sad about the bull. I suppose I never thought of lightening as such a cruel natural occurrence, although I do know it can kill on occasion. It hardly happens here. America is a place of enormous natural disasters. Everything that happens here is a popcorn fart compared to it.
Fantastic photo . I showed Papa as he loves photographing lightning and said your photo is awesome, I agree . Sad story though poor cattle ! Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !
You didn't really lose that gorgeous bull, did you, Gail?
Great writing and *hugs* if you did. ♥
Good lord! Did that really happen?
You are such a good story teller (always tell you that!) that I was shocked at first..and then thought..is my friend pulling my leg? If not..GOOD GRIEF!!!
Gail,
Lightning brings the sky to life, then when it strikes the tree, or a house it can be brutal.
Great story, sad ending.
Nature can be a hard mistress.
Sorry this happened, but I really enjoyed the way you told the story.
=)
i never know if your story is made up or true. i do hope this one is made up. i know these things happen, they happen a lot here, we are in the lightning capital of the USA...
Oh no, that is so sad. I can't believe it killed so many cattle.
So sorry.

The way you describe this Gail, it makes one feel like you are there. I am sorry to hear of the loss of 8 cattle - hope this was not your herd.
Oh, no.... so sad. I don't care for nature when she kills sweet animals. I hope this isn't true, at least recently.
Great visual writing...I could see the charred tree and poor animals up on that hill !!! ;)
Great centus. I guess I've never thought about livestock, getting killed my lightening. It probably happens frequently.
Wild animal of lightening.
What a visual.
The power of these storms is tremendous.
I always look up at the heavens and never think about what is happening on the ground.
Fantastic visualization here.
