"When The Music's Over"
Did he hear the butterfly scream
Did he hear the music
Of which he could only dream?
Did he dance on fire
This master of words
Was that gentle sound
The reason he's no longer heard?
Never daring compare
Words to one so wise
Twisted yet clearly seeing
Through his ageless eyes
"The streets are fields that never die"
Setting fire to our night
Was the music over
When he turned out the lights?

I specially like that last verse ~ Well played to the musical challenge ~
You are deeper than I dare to look.
Sadly, we won't get the answers to your questions.
WOW! This poem is smokin'! Especially notable is the "butterfly scream". Great write!
A lovely, thought provoking piece.
Wonderful job, Gail. ♥
The butterfly scream got me too. Powerful writing about his life and song(s).
You really took the challenge and ran with it. I love how this asks so many questions we will never be able to answer. Perhaps it should inspire us to seek answers to our own questions of self. Thank you so much for participating!!
What a loss that was. A sad story.
You did a great job with this challenge.
=)
Who knows what it's like at the end? Hopefully it's peaceful. I've thought about it a lot since my dad's passing from prostate cancer.
when the music is over I will be listening to the angels sing in heaven.
Very powerful and thought provoking. Did something in particular inspire it?

What an excellent tribute to a sad but talented life. The rhythm of this piece has a good feel to it.
Pow! Those last two lines are amazing!
Deeply satisfying ... deeply questioning.
