a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

I Walked With My Ancestors...

Yesterday, after Hubbs' doctor visit,
after a very rare (in both respects) steak lunch out,
after a stop for groceries,
I walked.
I walked where my father's father had walked.
I stood where the Osage stood.
I soaked up the healing that comes from the land.
I revisited places I've written about,
places I've lived,
and places I've played.
The sky smiled
while the land loved me back...
I, reluctantly, returned indoors to cook dinner.

Gail sometimes your words just touch something deep inside me - "the land loved me back" is one of those. My parents are buried in a tiny little country cemetery near where my father grew up. Every time I go there it feels like home, as if my genes recognize the place and the place recognizes me. It's an amazing thing since I never lived even close by. blessings, marlene

Beautiful post, Gail. I love this! What a lovely walk to take. And how neat that you could soak all this in and know what it means. So many people just miss it. :(

I feel the ancestors talking through your post. I love that feeling. That connectedness... connections to things and people long gone. Thanks!

You shouldn't have had to return back to cook dinner. Which ancestors made themselves felt present most in you? Which ones do you feel most connected to?
