a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

The Things We Keep...

What can you tell about a person by the things they have around them?  This has been on my mind as I thin pieces of my life, trying to simplify and  keep only the things I absolutely love.  There are many advantages to this.  You don't have to dust as much, when you're gone people will have less to throw away, and it just feels good being surrounded by stuff you absolutely love.

I wonder what these pictures tell about me except that I am behind on my dusting.  Welcome to a peek inside my head and my heart.  Introducing a few of the pieces that have survived the first cut.

Do they reveal my personality as you know it here or do they hint at secrets?  Let me know.
Remember, I didn't say I'd been cleaning...
I said, I'd been thinning.

I'd say you love texture and are a bit nostalgic. Right? Blessings, Marlene

I was about to say that you obviously have a whimsical side to your personality... then I noticed your labels below the post and I see that you already know you are whimsical.

I, too, am thinning (2 households, as we have 2 homes). I find that the things I keep are not necessairly the most valuable, and sometimes the least likely. I have a method. I get rid of 3 things per day. You would be surprised how fast it goes and makes the decisions much easier.

Interesting collection of things. It must be hard to part with many of them.

Knickknacks are impossible to keep dusted.
I love all your photos. I think you have a great eye. And of course a love of horses.
*hugs* ♥

Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday. Good luck with your sales!

I would say, you are an animal lover (like myself) and that you love the outdoors.

There must be something to this de-cluttering thing... It seem to be contagious. I have been working at it for awhile, and actually came acroos an article that helps you figure out what to toss and what to keep.

Hugs,
Mel

It is hard to do this. I think these treasures are a reflection of the things you like.

I love the fat stone bull. I did some thinning when we moved to the country house. Could probably do some more.

Don't thin too much. You might regret it later.

I need to thin a few things out as well. Was always on top of it when I didn't work outside the home. Now I have a room with clutter that really just needs to be thrown away! Thanks for the inspiration to get started! I think you have kept the things that tell a story in your life. I love the little couple feeding the chickens!

I am trying to do the same. I was calling it simplifying, but I sort of like your word better:

thinning.

Yep, that's what I need around here.

=)

Yup, love that cow! The horses, too. I'd say your things are the reflection of your outdoor life.

Thinning - hard to do. I look at things that have been passed down - they have sentimental value, may have real value, but are just so much clutter. I don't think either of my boys want them. They seem to lead simpler lives than we do.
Hubby's mother has EVERYTHING - and that has become a huge problem. She doesn't have space but refuses to let go.

You like both art and kitsch, that much is clear. I wish you'd go more in the direction of pure art. That would really be a good guide line. There'd be less nooks and crannies to dust too. I can't impose my taste on you though, but I think you have it in you. You've got some nice things there. XOX

I think they say, "Big hearted farm girl." But then I knew that and I'm not thinning. They can have a garage sale when I'm gone. :)

I would say you are a nature lover and you enjoy the simple pleasures of nature. I have a huge bouquet of peacock feathers in my kitchen.

I would say that you are eclectic and have a specific reason for what you keep. Like there is a story behind every single thing. :) I love your new header - not sure when you changed it since we've been offline for about a month, but I sure like it! Those feet in the mud could be mine!

Take it from a person who is living without a LOT of her things and MISSES THEM: don't thin too much! It's TRUE that I have things in storage, but I got rid of a lot of things. Yes, it's freeing. AND we don't need a lot of the stuff we THINK we do. SO, getting rid of things is a good thing. But those things that have sentimental value? I'd DEFINITELY keep.

You have eclectic taste - and a love of horses and things "down home".

Eclectic..and animals..everyone is different and we keep the things we love..and someone else will have to deal with it someday. I need to thin too..so it is less for them:)
