Art Is In The Eye of The Beholder...

and I have discovered I can not paint on demand.  The paints are what directs me, no talent on my part, just the feeling of the doing is the blessing. My daughter said, "Mom, I need a painting for my kitchen.  Here is the paint.  I want psychedelic mushrooms.."  I was alive in the sixties so I know psychedelic. I just can't paint it.
This was my first attempt.  Andrew likes it.  Maria did not.  Not quite what she had in mind but she was not born 'til '75.  She wanted lighter colors.  So I redid it.
Still not worthy. I shelved this one and gonna paint it over and do something the paints tell me to do.
So forget trying to paint for someone else.  I used her colors and the paint did the work.  I discovered she wanted surreal Alice In Wonderland mushrooms.  I finally got it right and she LOVES it.

Funny how retirement is no different.  I am still doing for others but that's okay.  I'm glad that I can.

i can somewhat relate, although i don't paint. when i was working, i sold quite a few of my framed photographs for 3 years. someone would see one and say I like that but could you find one like it but in a different color? or once a woman said I love your photos, but could you find a clothes line with flapping clothes and take for me? of course not. paint or photo is not on demand

I love the wild colors... I especially like the top-down view of the mushroom caps on the left... they remind me of the lines of static in a plasma ball.
How wonderful for Maria to have her mom's art in her house.

OK, I would have grabbed the first one - cause it is just WAY TOO NICE - You should have given the one Andrew liked to Andrew - they are all keepers. I totally understand the feeling to let the painting come from within, as I write my poetry the same way. Its just a feeling that comes over me and the words flow. Its easy enough to make rhymes and fun poetry, but serious poetry comes from a deep place inside. You had the colours and you let your talent flow on canvas. Very nice indeed.
