It may surprise you that I am not a fan of The Who. However, I most definitely get these lyrics. I always had musician friends and married one of them! Of course, he is a Faces fan and I am a Stones fan (as far as Brit bands). We work it out...you always have to work it out. Or there will be Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain.
I think it was The Who the Irish girls had tickets to one of the times in Ireland. The tickets were for the night after arrival and we turned them down . . . So sleepy that second day it seems . . . We have regretted that decision . . .

Never been a fan, same way I don't listen to the Beatles. Too long before my day
We still have some vinyls of The Who. This song says much for many many people.
