A New Take On Spring Cleaning

This is our pump house for the big spring At The Farm.
We have removed the winter protection for the pipes
and started clearing around the spring.
Two snakes lost their lives during this spring cleaning.
They had wintered under the tin over the insulated pipes.
Bev always says, you got to muddy things up to make them clear..
so we did.
We stopped the flow at the dam and started cleaning.
This backs up all the water in the spring
when we release, the water clears out any debris or mud
we have stirred up.
Blanket moss and water cress are removed from the main spring.
Son-in-law joins the work crew...Thanks, Luke!
The main  outlet to the spring pond is scooped out by hand
 and by tractor.
We remove the stoppage of water and let nature take its course.
We do this about twice a year
and our water stays crystal clear.

That looks like a lot of messy work...but the end result is sure worth it.

We only have to dig about every third year. Removing the grasses and water cress is twice a year.

Wow, impressive work done.
Can't say I'm too upset with 2 less snakes...sorry,I know they are beneficial.
I'm glad that your spring comes clean as we go into spring!

Aren't you lucky, getting to do spring things already! It will be a month or so before we feel the warmth of spring in NE Iowa.

I wish I had a live spring on my property, all 1/2 acre of it.

The process sounds sort of like a toilet. lol!

I always enjoy listening to your voice, Gail. It's very soothing. Even when you're talking about earthquakes. hehe!

How blessed you are to have water on your land. That looks like a lot of work but well worth it!
