Self Portrait
Not a wearer of pink
Nor dresses
I keep my face hidden
While I watch Nature
As if she were a Oscar-winning movie
Times ago
I wore pink dresses
Life leeches the pastels
Leaving earth tones
Blue jeans and big shirts
I want to be remembered
By the actions I've taken
Not how good I looked
In the coffin
I want to slip away
To be a thought
That crosses someone's mind
"I knew her..."
And they smile
Knowing I'm not far away

oh that is beautiful... the things we do are more important than the way we look... and i too think that nature is better than every movie...
Such a sincere narrative for yourself. I especially appreciate the outlook you have for yourself and it gave me a warm feeling in my heart. Be a thought in someone's mind. What a great thing to be :)
ha. i def would rather be known for my actions than how good i look in a coffin...i rather like earth tones as well...nature is a beautiful movie...smiles.

So, so true. Really enjoyed reading your poem. Thank you for sharing it.
Lovely... I'd rather keep my face hidden and watch Nature as well...
Your poem is brilliant! Verse two is only too true. Your talent as both a poet and an artist is amazing. Your picture is truly symbolic of youth and innocence. This is my favorite poem so far! Your post before this amuses me greatly!
I'm a lover of earth tones and you make me smile without having to go anywhere. :)
There is a lot said here even though it is fairly short...obviously not an attention getter, but a thinker, a spiritual one, I think
oh stars.....this is so profound and stirring.........you rock my dear.
Love the skirt
the picture in my mind plays like a watercolor. Lovely. That is how I want to be remembered.
The words you use, the images that arise--thank you.
That is excellent, Gail. Brilliantly written!
Aha ~ your true "nature" is beautiful .

be remembered and to live on..love
the poem and wonderful painting...
Sometimes I think our writing paths cross - they certainly did today. You struck a chord in me with this one and your poem sounds exactly like something my Mom said one day. Love it. The card made me laugh out loud and feel warmth in my heart at the same time. Thank you Easter Bunnies Gail n Marcy - That was so thoughtful and a warm spark of joy swept through my Easter Heart on a bitter cold day - yep, we are back to winter again - its -11 this morning??? Happy Easter dear friends :)
ditto what ginny said, this one is brilliant... you are scaring me, i am GETTING more and more of your poems. this one i can relate to.. me to on jeans and big shirts....
I love how the journey takes us from dresses to earth tones and big shirts - similar to the inner journey as well....very cool.
I just love those last two stanzas Gail. I like your ideas and priorities.
I am all about comfy clothing! Happy Easter to you and your family!:)
Very well done, Gail. ♥
True i think..always better to live in one's heart rather than vision..as sight is fleeting..but heart last at times..as long as heart exists..wherever love lies..as such..in TRUTH...
I for one am glad you abandoned the pink dresses and are so genuine and heartfelt.
