Ponytail by Last Exit
How would I knowThe empty spot
They left
When I "gifted" my horses
The visit of strangers
Reminded me
Of my loss
My gift
The smell
The feel
The strength of horses
Touched my heart again
Leaving me empty
Once more
As I herded them
Toward their home.

Very nice Gail . . . a tug at the heart for you, makes me sad for you.
That was a wonderful gift you gave when you gifted your horses!
I can only admire horses from afar...they never seemed to like me much. Yours are beautiful!!!
Well, I hope they didn't look the gift horse in the mouth...
aren't they beautiful...
i much prefer the real pony tails over the painting. they are so beautiful.. hope you got to pet them. i know you miss your horses.
Beautifully done...
Beautiful write Gail!
Awww, this one really strikes a chord with me. In March my 32 year old horse died. It leaves a lot of empty.
God's creatures are as much members of our lives and families as are those of our own flesh and blood... sometimes more. I can understand how much you miss your horses and I so wish they didn't have to go. They are beautiful animals indeed.
Written from the heart. Good job, Gail.
*hugs* ♥
ah horses are beautiful...we have stables through the woods and i like to go over and watch them...had a boy i did counseling with that used to love to brush them...made him so calm...and he'd talk to them...
Once again written with such depth Gorgeous horses.
Oh my ... can't imagine how hard it would be to let magnificent animals like these go. I'm certain it was hard to write about them.
They are gorgeous as is your poem, very touching poem
Loved this..a close friend "gifted her horses" too!
The whole left in her life...her heart was almost unbearable!
You portrayed that "feeling" beautifully!
Hugs

Even without backstory, the loss and ache is clear here. Even more poignant the loss is tied to 'gifted'. Enjoyed. Thank you.
What a beautiful group of horses that came to visit. I'm sure it was hard to shoo them back home.
What a beautiful gift you gave Gail - touched by your words and selfless
action.

Fine piece. There's something elemental about horses, something we all respond to. You've caught it here.
WOW - you gifted your horses - I would feel that tug at my heart too. You are indeed beautiful Gail - what a wonderful thing to do. Loved your poem and felt its depth.
Hail ,fellow horse lover... It tears me apart when an old one dies...bow do they burrow so deep into our souls ?
This is such a nice poem ... sad, but at the same time, giving and humane ... a nice write this week!
A heart that beats with the horses trot.....! Very touching post.
Love it! I thought of horses, too.
