Autumn

Morning rays announce
The arrival of autumn
Leaving me wanting
To hold summer in my hand
And keep green warm forever

I have no training but do enjoy these challenges.  The fun is in the doing.  Thank you, Toads.

Oh, I do love those last two lines - they lift the tanka beyond mere description.

It was interesting to go to Toad's site and read about Tanka poetry. I had never heard about it before.
I think you hit a home run!

I too like the last two lines, to keep summer as long as I can in my hand ~

Gail, I had to chuckle about your THINGS NOT TO DO WEARING FLIP-FLOPS. FYI...never wear shorts when weed eating tall brush or those darn chiggers will eat you alive!...:)JP

Fall is okay, but spring and summer are my favorites.

Sometimes I think no training is a good thing. Untrained is also unspoiled. And uncontrived.

JMHO of course. I love your poems.
