a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Labor Day Laboring

 Here I fell
The metamorphic rock, iron ore or meteorite I was after was worth it.  My arm was cut and my behind bruised.  Hubby asked if he needed to help me up and out.  I said, No, thanks, I'm contemplating.

He reminded me while I sat there where I had fallen that those were my Crocks and "not for the desert".  I am not prejudice. Sometimes I don't think how things sound.  At the hospital a nurse asked how comfortable they were and I said, "Great but not good for the desert".  Hubby started talking fast because I had stuck my foot in my mouth and didn't even know it.  The nurse was Mexican-American and Hubby was telling her how we had just vacationed in the Southwest and I went bare footed in the desert.  When the nurse left she was smiling but Hubby said, You should have seen her face when you said that!

I think people sometimes are too sensitive.

i can't help but laugh at this story, i can't tell you how many times my mouth has been full of my foot and sometimes both feet at once. good for Den explaining what you meant... and you were right, crocks are not good for the desert or even for the rocks in your photo. rocks hurt through the sole for me. they are all i wear besides my bare feet. i would of course wear boots if i lived where you are.

OOOPS, SOMEDAYS I CANNOT SPELL WORTH A DAMM, SO REWROTE COMMENT -
I can see yah going down and you are so much like my Sister - except she used to go barefoot all the time. Even in winter, she would have bare feet inside er winter boots - never wore socks and actually barefoot all spring, summer n fall. That piece of rock was worth it - I would've taken the same plunge, but I would have had my hiking boots on. Great find Gail and worth the bruises - N O W - to just get up outta that bed of rock......

It took me a while to catch on to that insider joke, but then I am a European. I did finally figure it out.

You went to the hospital because you were injured? Did you cut yourself during that fall? I hope you are okay!

things come out sounding wrong all the time when we open our human traps. :)

What is it about a tiny little creek that makes us aging country girls think we can still cross it?? Broke my arm too trying to negotiate a stream bed...Hel-Lo!!! Hugs, Gail!

I hope you are not to sore. Did you have to get stitches?
I hope that you remembered to grab the rock you went after.

Sounds like you did some damage to that poor foot! I am amazed at the places I see people wearing flip flops, far more unstable than Crocs. Absolutely no protection or support! I think we tend to go with what is comfortable and easy to slip on, and don't always consider if it will serve us well. I wear sandals 365 days a year, and have encountered miseries with stickers, pebbles, and splinters because of that.

I tend to agree with you, that folks can be too sensitive. That remark wouldn't even raise an eyebrow around here, regardless of our ethnic population or our proximity to the border.

No doubt people are too sensitive. Look at the state this country is in and it can tell you that.

Goodness, Gail. :-|
*hugs*
I hurt just looking at your pictures.
Hope you're feeling better! ♥

Gail,

Did you end up at the hospital after falling? Are you okay?

Nice find with the rock but not worth getting hurt. Please let me know if your okay.

You didn't say one thing wrong regarding your crocks

Ouch girl- I hope nothing is hurting today! I guess I am dense- I don't get the foot in mouth about the desert.

Oh my goodness... I am glad you are OK - I'm thinking things could have been much worse!
I am thinking Crocs don't do rocks too well, either! ;-)

Seems I've been sticking my foot in my mouth a lot lately too! And I agree about the too sensitive part!

This is another one of those posts where you remind me of my sister Nancy. Especially the "I'm contemplating" comment!
