a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Training

I know y'all are amazed when there are pictures like this.  Dogs don't chase cats, cats don't eat chickens.  It is just a matter of training and enforcement.  We begin the training but the animals also help it along.
Although Bonnie knows the cats are off limits it is soooooo tempting to try to get them to play.  Some will play with her but not this one.
This barn cat lays down the law
and calls for reinforcements.
And Bonnie learns the hard way...
you can sleep with cats
eat with cats
but you can't wrestle with cats
safely.

I love it - yes, Bonnie is learning, same as all your other furried family - I am amazed at how fast she has grown - I remember TM holding her in his lap when she first arrived - there is nothing that compares to the love and devotion of a pet. This post made me laugh at its cuteness. Have a wonderul day, hugz to Marcy and boyz.

Amen. We have done rescue for over 30 years, and have never had an issue between species. They (we) are all family. Nice pictures!

Yep Jameson is learning the same hard lesson. Funny how when the humans are comfortable with interaction, generally the animals are as well. Tenative harmony. That's the ticket. Oma Linda

i wish i could trust my dogs... 2 of them are just terrible 'varmint' killers and that extends to felines.

Love the pictures! A lot of people are amazed when they come to our farm too and see my chicken in the middle of the cats. She gets right in there when I feed the cats and gets some!

I love how cats are usually always the boss!

Bonnie seems to have learned her lesson, those cats don't look as if they stand for any nonsense.

Great pictures, yes, my dog has learned the same thing. Over and over.
Same kind of cats too. They are not to be messed with.
Have a nice weekend

Great teachers you are but it may take a bit before Bonnie learns the "way of the farm!" The cats will set her straight!

Dogs learn fast that cats will scratch their eyes out !!!
Your post brings back memories when we used to have pet rabbits running around the yard and they would actually chase the dogs !!??
Never figured that one out !!
Hope you have a blessed weekend

This is the way of life, we learn what works and what doesn't work, and sometimes we have to learn those lessons a bit painfully. Much of the good will among critters I experienced when visiting your wonderful farm, is due to the way they are treated and what you show them about each being cared for and working together. It's a wonderful life!
