a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Sewing My Wild Oats...

uh, my pumpkins, gourds, sunflowers, corn and beans.  I am hot, sunburned and wearing a wife beater T.  I am not complaining.  I never thought I would say this but I've missed sweating.  Unlike other southern ladies I do not perspire delicately.  I sweat like a horse.  I am so happy for the warmth!
Sometimes hooking up equipment is a two person job.  Remember the purple and pink toolbox?  Still working!

I began planting sunflowers here and there from our crop last year. Just scooping a small hole where ever I wanted a sunflower.  The almanac said Tuesday was a good day for above ground crops so I am testing that.  May be a little early but I think by the time they sprout all danger of frost will be gone..hopefully.

Hubby decided to go big and plow a little patch for the wildlife along the creek.  He did that and I got to plant.
The far side of the creek is now planted.  May it feed who needs it most.  I also wandered through the edge of the woods planting gourds so they could climb brush and trees.  I planted pumpkins in the sand and in ashy ground where a brush pile had been burned experimenting what they may prefer.  Planted them far from gourds so they will not cross pollinate.
And the pack was with us every step of the way.
I had no idea how much I was craving playing in the dirt.

I do envy you Gail being able to plant so early and enjoy spring. We are still under 3-5 ft of snow, but the buds are larger on the trees and I can smell spring in the air. I cannot wait to get out and play in the garden too. Well, the upside of still having snow, is that the neighbours made a large snowman in their yard yesterday, with Mom, Dad, Kids n Dog. The girls asked me if I liked it and I said I loved it, so I got my snow pants on and walked over and took a photo. I shall send this to you. Have a wonderful day and hi to all - hugz to March :)

Is that your entire pack? I feel like somebody is missing.

Our neighbor plants sunflower fields every other year. Sometimes I just pull my car over and stare.

How nice you got to plant all of those seeds. I can't wait to see it all growing in the summer. I sweat like that too. I think I sweat more than my husband.
I hope it stays warm for you.

My husband has fertilized our yard but we haven't risked planting anything yet. We need to decide what veggies we want to plant this year. Can't wait for the stores to be full of colorful flowers again. We also have the nightmare task of having to paint two decks ... those spindles are going to be a killer. My back is still out and it feels as though someone's shoved a knife in my back so not much I can do at the moment, hoping it eases up soon. Love that you've planted random sunflower seeds and that you have your pack accompanying you all the way. Our two dogs love to be outside when hubby is working too.

We will hopefully be able to get things cleaned up here, soon. Enjoy!

Cannot wait to see the sprouting take place!

I am buying pots of geraniums. I know, I know. But our 3x5 planter is facing the street with roaming cats.

Glad it's finally warm enough for you to do that!

I'm already thinking about some changes I'd like to make to our usual vegetables and their location, but it will be months more for us.

My kind of fun day is one like yours . . . digging, planting, clearing with a bunch of the steamy sweating too.

We continue to melt although it is going to take many more days of warming before any digging around with some seed sowing can take place . . .

Happy days Gail . . .

It sounds heavenly, Gail.
I'm happy for you!
It's a wonderful feeling to plant and later reap your bounty.

I love being able to work outside if even just to get the dogs out for more than a short while like it has been all winter. I like your idea of random planting. It is better that way : )

What a wonderful way to spend the day!

I hope you will show us the results of the planting. I love the idea of using the trees and bushes for the vining things.

The ground looks a little dry? We are needing rain here and it seems to miss us each chance.
